If that’s what they do to a US Senator with a question, imagine what they do to farm workers, day laborers, cooks, and the other nonviolent immigrants they are targeting in California and across the country. Or any American that dares to speak up.

A very good point.
It's hard to celebrate when someone like Elon Musk waltzes into the federal government, wrecks the place, and walks away seemingly with everything he wanted. But did he, though? In the end, Musk left defeated, humiliated, and widely despised. That’s no small thing. We should take the win.

I've been thinking about this book a lot lately. And the word 'careless'.
They were careless people, Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.
