A male Dark Bush-cricket (Pholidoptera griseoaptera) seen earlier this week in Brambles near the River Severn in Telford. This species sticks almost exclusively to the Severn corridor in Shropshire, perhaps because of the warmer microclimate?

The Cook Strait giant wētā (Deinacrida rugosa) is an anostostomatid from New Zealand. It's one of the largest insects in the world! Major threats to this cutie include land clearing and predation by rats. It's listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. #EverydayEnsifera

Macro shot of a butterfly (Pieris brassicae) head, showing the compound eye. It is a green-grey, speckled in a repeating pattern of black spots emanating from a central pseudopupil, the pattern almost reminiscent of a honeycomb structure, one tat the compound eye is likely made up of.

Turned over a fallen branch yesterday and found this rather lovely Green-brindled Crescent Moth. Superb camouflage.

Any #diptera people interested in a couple of #flies from France? These turned up in my pitfall samples from #leaflitter, along with some other inverts.

Also at least four spp. of #ants (which is what I was looking for).
