I just noticed that nethack.org has decided to get with the times, and now has an RSS feed.

Sometimes I feel like my main contribution to social media sites is a long long list of ways that tech has infuriated me. I have another such instance that happened just now, but... I'll save it for tomorrow. I'll just say that my confidence is at a low ebb right now.

I see people are annoyed with Discord at the moment. It seems a good time to remind everyone that so many projects and games using Discord as basically their sole method of communicating with people has resulted in a hollowing-out of the web.

Discord also has an annoying interface (that big […]

Over on the revival of Digg (remember that?) there are a handful of users trying to turn the site rightward. One of them is trying to turn people by asking them how is their *personal* life *substantively* worse under Trump. The "argument against empathy."

Back in my day if a chat service went to shit we'd just delete it and use one of the six other chat programs on our computers that all our mates were spread between, and it really *was* a "just" in that scenario because everyone we talked to also had at least two other chat programs to talk to […]

A professor friend used to have a nice little website about romance writers and their reading in gothic literature, it was sited by multiple people throughout the web. Then the school deleted it the end.

Well maybe not THE the end. Wayback archived a copy of the site from way back in 2004. I'm […]

Over on Bluesite (not MeFi, the other one) Chuck Schumer has a typically mealy-mouthed, gosh-darn post where he says Democrats want a "commonsense" reform of ICE, and wow, if there were ever a demonstration of how feckless the Dems old guard are, that is IT. Is it just Manchins and Sinemas all […]

ICE tear gassed a bunch of children on Saturday. This was a massive escalation of force. They were shooting tear gas at the back of the crowd, it took these unmasked people maybe 3-5 minutes in the cloud of tear gas to escape in without trampling. www.theverge.com/policy/87278...

Me: "AHEM."
Moderator: "Oh fine then." (flings it over in exasperation)

Seems the Switch Tomodachi Life game is out soon. A while back, using amiibo, I laborious copied ALL the miis we had made and downloaded from my old Wii to my Switch, and hence transferred to Switch 2. I may be the one person in the world posed to like this the most.

I love how the early online atheist movement collapsed and disintegrated when some of the people behind it turned out to be racist self-satisfied POSes.

No wait. "love" isn't the word I'm looking for. It's that other one. Like, "despise." "Abhor." "Cry openly about."

Working on an obit post for longtime MeFite and MSTie oneswellfoop, aka Wendell, aka Craig Whittler. We still don't know for sure he's passed, but his last comment I think was Feb 2022, and we know he had been having health issues.

Re-familiarizing myself with the rules and text of Call of Cthulth, and reminding myself how exceptionally well-written it is. It might have the best writing I've ever seen in an RPG rulebook, with the possible exception of Paranoia.
