I don’t think it makes sense for Dems to publicly demand that Vought be fired as a condition of passing a funding bill, but they should hint publicly (they have been) and say explicitly in private that it’s one of the only things that could signal enough trust to pass a funding bill.

It’s great that Dems are winning the messaging war on the shutdown and all but we don’t have the sort of time to just be at “they’ll pay for this at the polls midterms.” They need to get the public to broadly understand the immediate authoritarian crisis we are facing now.

Jacobs had his confirmation hearing back in July just as two other NOAA officials who *led the investigation into Jacobs and Sharpiegate* were placed on indefinite leave. Here's what I wrote about it back then:
