18457 children murdered by a genocidal regime.
And that's just up to the end of July.
Imagine if every married couple with kids in Kerry had a child murdered-beyond comprehension-yet whole families are being slaughtered in Gaza with complete impunity #speirgorm 💔

Amid the constant anti-renewables sentiment so common across our media, this letter today is a blessed relief.

I still can't believe that they're doing this. Giving a massive VAT tax break that'll do very little for small cafés and restaurants, while giving millions to big chains.

Weak, unfocused governance. They're too comfortable chucking out our tax money.

It's official. They're giving big restaurant chains a massive tax cut, costing nearly €700m in the #VAT cut to hospitality.

For that kind of money you could:

I truly believe articles like this are part of a deliberate effort not just to frame climate change as primarily a matter of individual consumer responsibility, but to encourage the public to blame disabled ppl specifically & view assistive tech as an extravagance humanity can’t afford, while (1/2)

I think they make that argument pretty clear in the article but thanks for highlighting!

Some thoughts Ireland's neutrality:

Irish neutrality and non-violence is important, it's a huge part of our history and identity. An anti-conscription movement led to the birth of the State. Replacing the RIC with an unarmed police force was a policy priority. And who could forget the boycott?

On my way to this today. Two years of genocide and no sanctions. We will be shamed by history for this. #FreePalestine #SanctionsNow

Read my latest. In Ireland, 71% of all internet traffic is made up of bots. You're being lied to by streaming giants, social media, influencers and publishing giants. Which is very bad news for advertisers, consumers and democracy.

My reflection on the movie "Gandhi" (1982) notes that for any movement for social justice to achieve its goals, it requires the endurance of the long-distance runner more than the brief burst of speed of the sprinter.

Simply reducing beef and lamb consumption to one serving a week -- as recommended by EAT-Lancet -- could reduce emissions by almost 3 billion tons CO2-eq. The equivalent of all of Russia's annual emissions.

Thanks to @melinawalling.bsky.social for including my thoughts in this article.

This is an extremely important report. Watch for the pushback from big ag on dietary changes - changes that must happen and CAN happen. Food preferences and demand are not given. Reports like this can help move the needle.
Also lots of great resources in the thread, well worth a careful read!

EAT-Lancet 2.0 report is out today, updating the influential 2019 report.

On my first read it seems to bring further data/evidence to support the big solutions for food/climate/nature: 1) improve productivity & env performance of agriculture, 2) reduce food loss/waste, 3) healthy/sustainable diets.
The EAT–Lancet Commission on healthy, sustainable, and just food systems
The global context has shifted dramatically since publication of the first EAT–Lancet Commission in 2019, with increased geopolitical instability, soaring food prices, and the COVID-19 pandemic exacer...
