I just “lost” my first Anthony Award, after I gathered the other category nominees& we had a lovely laughter-filled lunch together, getting to know one another. When I hugged the winner in excitement, I 100% meant it. I know she’d’ve done the same if I’d won.

All my real friends are like “fuck yeah! Celebratory sushi!” whenever book stuff goes well. You either learn early you’re not in competition with others in the industry or…I dunno, I guess you spend a lot of time with a therapist or something.
