"Because if you believe literally all of these recent uses by Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec are justified - not legally valid, not ‘constitutional’, but morally or normative justified - the truth is you simply don’t care about minority rights."

People often ask: what can ordinary people do to stop populists like Trump and Smith from running roughshod over democratic norms?

Populists rely on the widespread perception that their actions are supported by "the majority" and "common people."

Anything that punctures that myth helps. +

Bill 2 is a serious abuse of power by the Alberta Government and must not stand.

We invite all Albertans to sign up, send a letter to the Premier, and join the fight to stop this abuse of power: savethecharter.ca
The Alberta President of the Canadian Bar Association has entered the chat…

Calling out not only the preemptive use of the notwithstanding clause but also the limited debate as threats to the rule of law.

I had to call in twice on Wednesday and wait a total of 60 minutes to book appointments for my family for 6 weeks in the future. Thanks @albertagov.bsky.social! Usually when you need to pay a user fee for a service you get it faster not slower, but you’ve managed to cost me more money and be slower!
The only way to book COVID vaccines for young children in Alberta is by calling 811 / HealthLink.

Bookings opened Monday.

It’s now Friday and the system is still saying call volumes are too high and auto-hanging-up on callers. 🙃

(They also cost $100 a pop, if you can ever get through.)

About 10 years ago someone introduced themselves as “Hugh Robert” to which I simply responded “Yes.” It took what seemed like an eternity to resolve the confusion but it was probably only 5 seconds real time.
Got my hair done today and the stylist was like “Hi Caroline” and I said “I go by Lucy” and she said “that’s ok” And I said “oh” And she said ‘did you say “I’m early”’ And I said “Lucy is my middle name” and she said “ok” and I said “no, that’s what I said” One of my most failed human interactions

This morning, my eldest kid said I was a “knobby turnip.” I have no idea how she acquired that particular turn of phrase.
