Being a good person is now a revolutionary act.

Acceptance is rebellion.
Brotherhood is dangerous.
Kindness is subversive.
Empathy, a threat.
Decency? Treason.

In an age of engineered cruelty,
To care is to resist.
To stand with the vulnerable is
To stand against empire.

Nearly 40% of women have a "mental health condition" says survey. Can't we ditch that language & the ideology it propagates & rather say: such women are in emotional pain, often for obvious socio-relational reasons. This take obliges a different response.

Let's not call for more resilience, diagnoses, drugs, medicalisation & neurofication to address escalating rates of poor mental health, let's call for new social policy to tackle its social determinants & properly fund demedicalised psycho-social support. That's it in a nutshell.

The anger about what happened and what didn’t happen, what was seen and what was ignored - that anger is justified.

That MH professionals judge the anger of survivors of abuse, decide that it’s inappropriate and an indicator of a disordered personality is an abomination

Around 1.8 million adults were prescribed psychological therapy in England last year, compared to nearly 9 million prescribed antidepressants. The imbalance isn't in our brains it's in our provision.

An awful legacy of DSM culture is that a generation of psychs & therapists now believe its legit (in no time) to shoehorn complex humanity into a crude, pre-established psych-construct, & keep them their via confirmation bias. This isn’t ‘experience’ at work but ‘indoctrination’.

This is concerning given the number of people now taking antidepressants too…

It’s time to review antidepressants as the dominant approach. They’re causing more harm than help for many. AND do nothing to address roots causes.

And saying 'antidepressants work' obscures this important fact that antidepressants are drugs that change the normal state of the brain and mind in ways we do not fully understand and are not certain are safe or harmless
We should never say: "Antidepressants are effective 'treatments' for mental 'illness'," as this is pure ideology.

At most, we should rather say: "Antidepressants alter states of mind & body in ways that may or may not be experienced as useful by the individual in question".

I was once asked, by an extremely privileged & exclusively private practice surgeon, why all Emergency Medicine doctors were socialists.

I think it's because we see the full breadth of societal failures and how for the lack of simple, cheap measures, people are wilfully kept in suffering & misery.
Stephen from the Outsiders project. He died soon afterwards aged only 39. As the cold sets in it is worth remembering that someone homeless dies on the streets in Britain every six hours. As a society we are defined by how we treat those less fortunate than ourselves.
