Hey update on this: Turns out Trump himself will use the phrase "Trump Derangement Syndrome," and he will use it to say it's the reason a generational film director was brutally murdered.
The phrase "Derangement Syndrome" should be retired to a dustbin no matter whom it's applied to. Even if it's someone I may favor. Do people act irrationally in politics? Sure. But that phrase comes across as a copout with the message that a person in power can do no wrong. It skirts accountability.

Biggest problem I have with the piece is this is a *newspaper*, an entity that is meant to hold the powerful accountable. And, yes, sometimes papers agree with those in power. But what they should never do is dismiss/ignore why citizens would oppose those in power. This article does just that.
Very disappointing from my former employer. Compares "Trump Derangement Syndrome" to "Bush Derangement Syndrome" (George W). Does not mention one possible reason people would have hated GWB (Iraq War, Katrina, attempt to ban same-sex marriage in constitution, etc.)
Perspective: Why we can thank George W. Bush for 'Trump Derangement Syndrome'
The term often used today comes from a Washington Post columnist in another presidential era.
