First day of new job: so far so good! They’re giving everybody an extra paid holiday on Friday (we already had Monday and Tuesday off), so that was a nice surprise for my first day!

When we say "no, everything hasn't been digitized," I need you to understand that we really mean is that virtually nothing has been digitized. This is because the realm of primary sources that historians use is incomprehensibly large.
Seems like it's worth posting this one again.
Why Do Historians Still Have To Go To Archives?

When we say "no, everything hasn't been digitized," I need you to understand that we really mean is that virtually nothing has been digitized. This is because the realm of primary sources that historians use is incomprehensibly large.
It’s my first day at my new job tomorrow! This is a completely new field for me so I’m a little nervous but mostly excited!

Update: it has been next to impossible to get the old plates off, we finally figured it out but now I need a new license plate mount 🙃
Finally got my car registered in California (it had Utah plates when I bought it), and the plates they gave me are a great representation of my experience dealing with the DMV.

Plot twist: it wasn’t tape! The VIN sticker was peeling off, and what I thought was tape was actually paint from the car showing through. The bad news is it can’t be fixed, the good news is there’s a workaround.
So now I have to go to Highway Patrol tomorrow so a cop can look at it. (I tried removing the tape myself, but it’s under the windshield and apparently impossible to remove.)

I got an interview at another firm! I turned it down because the salary, commute, and title are very similar to the role I was already offered, and I’m not as interested in the type of law this place does. It felt wrong to turn down an interview in this economy, though!

Thank you all for your suggestions! I ended up going to Michaels and buying pretty much one of everything from the kids’ craft supply aisle.
What are we buying for the 5yos and 3yos in our lives this year? Ideally something they can play with as soon as they unwrap it?

More info if it helps: they’re both boys, but their parents don’t care about gendered toys and neither do I. Interests include superheroes, arts and crafts, dinosaurs, animals, bathroom humor (but I don’t necessarily want to encourage that last one)

DMV wasn’t able to complete the VIN verification for the absolute dumbest reason possible: the VIN on the windshield is partially covered with tape from a previous repair, and despite the fact that the VIN is visible on at least two other spots on the car, they needed that one specifically 🙃

And that’s a wrap! Last Nutcracker show went great - my best friend and their great-aunt came today! Taking a final costume inventory this week (the current one is…extremely out of date), then I have a few days to recover, then I start my new job!
