The updated 2022 baseline, concentration and exposure data shows us there is clearly a lot more work to do on #WoodBurning in London.

We need stronger action from both DEFRA and @london.gov.uk to reduce unnecessary burning in London.

Wood smoke is very targetted pollution – next door neighbour could be getting >250µg/m³ PM2.5 indoors while someone a few doors down may not even smell smoke! Very easy to ignore until your neighbour starts burning. That’s why it needs to be considered by emissions per appliance, NOT local averages.
Why is air pollution from wood burning a social justice issue? 👇

Why should you care about #Diesel?

There are millions of diesel cars on our roads emitting suspiciously high levels of #AirPollution. The excess emissions produced over the last 15 years have caused an estimated 30,000 cases of asthma in children and 800,000 days of sick leave in the UK. More 👇 .

Eliminating tobacco smoking would be great, but all smoke is harmful. People with lung conditions had a few years where we could breathe easily in public places but now, because of “Ecodesign” stoves in SCAs, we are denied that basic human right, even in our own home.

Burning wood damages our #Climate.

👍 Planting a new tree is great but...
👎 ...it takes decades of growth before that new tree is mature enough to absorb the carbon emitted from the one burnt last night.

Wood Is Not a Carbon-Neutral Energy Source
Treating it as such – and supporting it with subsidies, as the UK and many other EU member states do – is a flawed path to climate action.
