I've been listening to MCS since I was an angsty teen, and as I've said before: what sets these guys apart from a lot of the music of their genre, is that their songs - new and old - grow WITH you. Take a listen to my interview with founders Justin Pierre and Josh Cain

No software update needed for this band: Motion City Soundtrack grows into middle age
Ten years after their last new music release, Motion City Soundtrack is still as anxious as ever, but for different reasons.

repost this if an editor has ever saved you from yourself

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

I've been working for the better part of a decade at my favorite national radio network because of people I met on social media (and a lot of hard work ofc)

Has anything great happened in your life because of social media?
ryanbenk.bsky.social
Yeah I eat like 75 percent vegan these days because the hubby went vegan and he likes to do most of the cooking. He finds some of the most delicious recipes and I always feel good after eating it! Eating out places though, I am likely to get something with some kind of fish or poultry.

Speaking only for myself, the most important selling point for vegan food in my life is that vegan food is delicious. It's interesting. It's often novel. It takes skill to prepare. I still eat meat, but delicious vegan and vegetarian meals abound and I like eating them because I like eating.
faineg.bsky.social
yeah, i actually do eat a lot more vegan food nowadays because i have seen a bunch of recipes for vegan food online that look delicious

this is, IMO, a much more effective sales tactic for veganism

I could agree with someone almost 99/100 times and yet if they approach every discussion like a battle to the death, I'm absolutely not going to want to continue engaging with you

Yeah that's just ridiculous. People need to rediscover shame. Even more than empathy. SHAME. Like to openly say this kind of shit is nuts.

Oh we're gonna do this news so fucking good.
ryanbenk.bsky.social
But people are being asked to tip FOR EVERYTHING now. I can't blame the cashiers or baristas or the end service or retail worker. Still, I will NOT be subsidizing a biz owner underpaying their employees.
ryanbenk.bsky.social
That being said, tip fatigue is REAL. Like we are being asked to tip for EVERYTHING. I went to a smoke shop the other day and the cashier turned the screen around for me to pay and I had to click through a tip screen. I get it, people need money. And I'm willing to pay for service.
ryanbenk.bsky.social
I always tip and have also worked for tips. I also understand that even a "full min wage" is laughable considering inflation, wage stagnation etc. However, I think a lot of people who don't work tipped jobs are also feeling the pinch and taking it out on tipped workers.

I don't think people understand just how much of a revolt they'll have if they shutdown the govt AND don't pay people back pay. Do you want to radicalize middle managers, paper pushers and mild-mannered scientists? Because this is how you do that.

Johnson: "It's true that in previous shutdowns, many or most furloughed employees have been paid for the time they were furloughed, but there is new legal analysis - I don't know the details, I just saw a headline - but there are some legal analysts saying that might not be appropriate or necessary"

You know, I think that if there is anything that will really turn the tide against AI and deepfakes, it's when con influencers like J Paul get overwhelmed with videos making them look gay lol. Fr fr

These two things are of a piece, even if the motivations and details differ.

Trump’s justification for his authoritarian crackdown is an America that doesn’t exist.

Lizzie O’Leary quote post of a CNN post that pairs the headline “What is the insurrection act?” with an image of an on fire Winchell’s Donuts from the 92 LA riots.
