🚨 We’re hearing that Senate Democrats are on the verge of caving to Trump in another “Schumer Surrender.”

That means your Democratic senators need to hear from you right now.

Good literary translation requires understanding (language, culture, genre--on both sides of the translation) and an ability to write well. "AI" can't do that. There are no shortcuts. Treat your work and foreign language readers with the respect they deserve. You won't fool anyone with this.

🎃 31 Horror Movies in 31 Days 🎃

39/??

An American Werewolf in London (1981)

Figured I'd continue the werewolf-oween with one of my all-time favorite movies. Great horror-comedy balance. Fun soundtrack. The transformation scene of course, but the subway was the scene that made me fall in love

38/??

Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943)

Continuing the universal monsters mostly because it was on the same disc as The Wolf Man. Pretty fun. Creepy opening in the crypt as well

37/??

The Wolf Man (1941)

Lon Chaney, Jr. brings the anguish of the curse to exquisitely painful levels in the werewolf movie that started them all.

36/??

Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost

The most Halloween of the Scooby Doo movies: New England Autumn setting, Tim Curry being Tim Curry, and the Hex Girls.

This era of Scooby-Doo movies really hits that cozy Halloween vibe.

Satan's Little Helper (2004)

I genuinely can't tell if I like this movie or not. Feels like a hyper-evil Disney original.

In the spirit of fun, I think we need a new lake monster. I haven't heard of a new one in a long time. Someone find a lake and a forgotten dinosaur at the bottom please.
Q4, and this is the last one for tonight. Hang around for the pimp your book part of the night in 10 minutes. Please do repost others. Please do go and repost one of Matt's books as well.
Thanks thanks.

We still fear the dark. We still fear the unknown.

Darkness? Turn on a light.
...but the light is flickering
Alone and afraid? Call a friend on the phone.
...but the phone is answered by a stranger

Our tech comforts still lead to new horrors.
Old stories retold with tech work.

I think they're all the same stories, just told in different ways. What we're afraid of is our helplessness and vulnerability in the face of these unknowns. All that changes is what kind of vulnerability is being exposed
So what does it say about us, as the folklore evolves, and we fear new things, in the dark...

Anything about something big in the woods that wants to eat me. It's easy to say I don't believe in superstition at home, in the city. It's a lot harder camping in the dark away from electricity or walls.

I'm Mary from Greater Manchester (UK), where I write cosmic, gothic and Weird horror.

My childhood fears were pretty mundane, real-world stuff.
And I'm not sharing those online.

The ghost haunting my childhood home was friendly with me.
Graveyards were comforting.
Hola, Horror Writers. I'm going to post and eat as I've pretty much just walked in. But, we're all about it today, so close to Halloween!
Tell me tell me. What scared you as a child?

No links, no hawking books please, till the end. Thanks Thanks.

Hello all!

I'm Ryan. I write all varieties of dark fiction but mostly horror and dark fantasy.

I had a terrible fear of the void even as a young child to the point where I was afraid of falling asleep because I wasn't there for it. The existential dread crept in on me young...

28/31

Frankenstein (2025)

Had the chance to see it in theaters which was perfect because @realgdt.bsky.social paints beautiful compositions in his films. Oscar Isaac was fantastic as always. Gothic horror and romance, tormented fathers, all moving.
