A man who has written numerous books about morality cannot say whether it’s immoral to murder someone because they mildly inconvenienced you

The 2nd paragraph indicates that Rep. Lieu still considers this a political question, rather than a criminal violation of international law and the US Constitution.

Do you imagine voters won’t abhor the war crime unless you tie them to our bank accounts? My what a low opinion you and your colleagues have of us. Try standing up for what’s right simply because it is right for once. It might feel good.

Such actions would be just as illegal (and just as impeachable) even if the offending executive had more palatable domestic economic policies, so why bring up economics?

Hi. A constituent of yours here. I would like you to address this as an instance of the President illegally usurping the war powers that belong to Congress per the Constitution without referring to it as a distraction for anything.

We Michiganders, the nation, and the world are watching.

What actually communicates realness and groundedness is to stand up for what is right and lawful without reservation, without qualifications, and without this stink of campaigning. Call out illegal action and then back up those words with actions and consequences.

It doesn’t make you sound realer or more grounded to bring grocery prices into your war crimes statement. It simply makes you sound more political. Also—little known fact—people worry the consequences of unnecessary and unlawful wars at their kitchen tables too!

I promise you, no matter what pundits or pollsters tell you, you are allowed to say that the Executive usurping the war powers that belong to Congress per the Constitution is bad without tying it to someone’s imagined “kitchen table issues.”

As your constituent, I find this framing pretty appalling. Your assertion is that the President’s actions would be palatable if he had different domestic economic policies?

Impatience. Who’s to say the Weird Sisters’ prophecy regarding the crown wouldn’t have played out without further action from Macbeth (as did his receiving the title of Thane of Cawdor)? But no, Mr. And Mrs. M couldn’t just let events unfold and had to get mixed up in all that killing.
