The point of untenability is rapidly approaching for Starmer and other European leaders pootling along in the same deferential lane of appeasement. Yes, it could get ugly if Europe stands firm against Trump's pro-authoritarianism. It will definitely get ugly if it doesn't.

The JBS also targeted the Civil Rights Movement, water fluoridation, environmentalism and OSHA. It helped block ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, calling it a Communist plot “to reduce human beings to living at the same level as animals.” Phyllis Schlafly was a member. /3

Welch named the John Birch Society for an OSS agent who was killed by Chinese Communist soldiers 10 days after WWII ended. Welch considered him the first casualty of the Cold War. The group quickly became a political force, targeting politicians it deemed “soft” on Communism. /2
