Getting my feet wet in Bluesky - but isn't that what Nereids are supposed to do?
I think it is important to give your characters flaws. Let them make a decision they normally wouldn't. If they look perfect on the outside, what are their internal struggles? No one wants to read a character that is perfect.

Got my manuscript back from my editor & am chipping away at making suggested changes. This was helpful because I wrote non-fiction for years before switching over to my first-love of fiction. Not all writing rules carry over.

I strive, when wrapping up a novel, to make the ending meaningful; to make it worth the investment by the reader.

I just finished reading a book (no names or shade) that failed that test. A hollow ending. A promise not delivered. A shame.

Not sure if it's more like the night before Christmas, or the night before a dentist appt, but I get my mauscript back from my editor tomorrow. Excited and terrified.

Slipped out of the weekend to 32k words for book two. I've made so much progress over the last couple of weeks, and it shows.

Also had a meeting with the person that will be doing the cover art for the series. Feeling very optimistic today.

Knocked out another thousand+ words this morning. Before noon, even. I hope I can maintain the pace. I'd love to be in the position to do a one-two drop of book one and two in 2026.

My main character speaks English, some Choctaw, and is learning Nereid (based on Greek.)

Yep. I've got a trifecta in the works.

Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters

Does your character speak English? Or another real language?

Do they speak a fictional language transcribed as another for the sake of the reader?

Are language barriers ever a problem in the story?

I think I also figured out why I struggled so much reading books written in first person. In most cases, I could never get behind the choices they made. I'm much more comfortable with third person.

Feeling accomplished.

Woke up from another night of my subconscious tweaking, replotting and creating full scenes. I made quick notes to get back to after the day job, but damn! I'd rather be #writing.

I've found the cure for lack of creativity, motivation, or writer's block:

Open an Excel spreadsheet and try to math, logic or formula.

Guaranteed to instantly fire my brain into thinking about anything *but* numbers.

In the office at my dayjob today--hours wasted that I could be working on my novel. A dayjob conflicts with my goals of being a full-time writer.

Available for adoption by wealthy benefactor 😁

So excited! My editor dropped me an update this afternoon and said she loved my book's ending. This is huge! Endings can be so difficult to nail sometimes, and I really fretted over this one. Woot!!!

Finally decided to give the main character in my novel another flaw. It stings, but I know it's necessary.

Taking toys to the library this morning to donate to needy children. Someone's getting a giant Elmo doll that I won.

I remember growing up poor and having to stand in line at Christmas for a toy. Hoping I can change that for others.

I'm 100 pgs into book two and things are about to ramp up in dangerous ways. Crossing my fingers that the ideas keep flowing onto the page and I can keep up the pace. I'm even waking up in the middle of the night to jot down scenes.

I'm am tweaking a sentence that feels too cliche. It should reflect the fragility of someone whose heart was broken & the carelessness of the one who broke it. Said from the best friend's POV. Suggestions?

"She was fine before you stepped on her heart like it was..."

If I've learned anything from working on book one, it's to stop trying to edit as I go. Write it down. Keep flowing forward. Just get it on the page. Once you're at the proverbial end, set it aside for a couple of weeks or a month before returning to it. Trust me.

Just got back from the library with two books in a series I'm reading. I read every night before bed. I think it helps kick the cobwebs loose and gives me new perspectives on my own writing.

My epiphany of the day: Pantsing vs plotting is not about one being better than the other, rather how the writer's mind works.
I'm mainly a pantser, aka instinctive structural writer, planting seeds and weaving threads. I enjoy the journey.
