Urban fantasy author of Nereid Unbound coming spring of '26.
Getting my feet wet in Bluesky - but isn't that what Nereids are supposed to do?
It was one of the ideas I had floated as I weighed potential outcomes. This one hit harder and became a defining point in her character arc.

Her mother vanished when she was young. She allowed herself to believe she'd one day find her again, alive and well. When confronted with the truth that her mother had been killed, it shatters the illusion and her grief resurfaces.

My character's flaw is lying to herself, and it comes back to bite her. When the realization finally hits, we follow her grief as her beliefs collapse into harsh reality. It's not pretty, but it wasn't meant to be.

It drove me to a glass of wine last night before I threw in the towel.

My issue stemmed from Google docs not properly converting to Docx. I am in edit hell with ellipsis, quotation marks and phantom spaces that weren't there before.

I'm reminded of a grade school teacher that complained I daydreamed too much.

Nope, that was me training to be a writer.

I make multiple passes looking for specific things each time: POV shifts, missing puncuation, repeated words, continuity errors, are subplots wrapped up, did I foreshadow effectively, correct character voice, etc.

Fantasize. Let your mind wander down those corridors while you take note of what works and what doesn't. Feel the heat, and if there isn't any, keep looking (and reading.)

Just last week, I got my manuscript back from my editor, and the night before was like the most terrifying Christmas eve, ever. Like wondering if you're gonna get Santa or Krampus.

I might be showing my age, but I once wrote a piece that made Penthouse's Letter of the Month. Complete with a centerfold layout (models, not me). My mom rushed out to buy copies and sent one to my grandma. MY GRANDMA.

For me, it wasn't the beta readers. It was turning my manuscript over to my editor.

I estimate the most I've done may be around 5k. Assembling prewriten scenes into a coherent form could be a cause of the confusion. I've knocked out a large amount in a weekend that way. I keep a wip scene folder.

I'm always open to networking & forging new friendships, especially with other writers. I feel we can all learn something from one another.

IRL, I've always preferred a clean-shaven man. But the male lead in my current series has a neatly trimmed beard, and not gonna lie, I could sop him up with a biscuit. 🤣
