Do you think many people would take them up on this offer? I don’t know PH. I have been to Taiwan and my sense is there is still anger towards JP in TW. My guess is that an offer like this may be met with indifference or even anger.

There are no circumstances where this is good in the short or long term for protection of life/property or to better understanding our world. Worst of all, these are professionals, many of them starting their careers, who were thrust into the chipper. This is not how we should treat one another.
NOAA is an absolute mess, and it’ll be worse tomorrow. Please help us. There have already been over 1,000 terminations. It’s not just layoffs—Elon Musk and his staffers are trying to completely dismantle us. Today, there were tons of firings, and more are coming tomorrow.

I know it is going to be bad next week. And after that, it will just get worse. I know I have had plenty of time to prepare for this. And I did not. I could not. Nothing can be done to fix this. My only solution at this point is complete denial. "Spring semester does not exist and can not hurt me."

I can promise there are plenty of abandoned postdocs and graduate students in SoCal looking for mentors and friends. I was adopted by a faculty member at one of the Claremont Colleges when I was a graduate student. They were my first real faculty mentor in graduate school.
