the red teamers who have been doing "adversarial testing" on this thing for 18 months seem to have overlooked "framing someone for a crime". alas!
A tweet from OpenAI in February 2024: "We’ll be taking several important safety steps ahead of making Sora available in OpenAI’s products.

We are working with red teamers — domain experts in areas like misinformation, hateful content, and bias — who are adversarially testing the model."

NEW: Elon Musk keeps hyping Tesla’s FSD software, and getting more people to buy it is key to his new pay package. But in a recent test, it ignored standard street signs and even a flashing school bus stop sign – squashing mannequin child “Timmy.” Why is it legal? www.forbes.com/sites/alanoh...

many legacy media people are aware of which internet figures/platforms are "important", but often have very little understanding of *why* they're important, the kinds of things they say (earnestly or ironically), the feuds they have with each other, in-jokes, etc. seems like a recipe for a real mess

very complicated that interpreting the niche/dumb internet subculture references on the bullet engravings has real stakes

"is this a reference to 20th century Italian anti-fascism or an ironic groyper reference?"/"which kind of pepe is this?" don't seem like questions most media can grasp well

Trading on Kalshi has picked up significantly since they began listing sports markets for US bettors nationwide

Their opponents say this is illicit sports betting, in conflict with CFTC rules that the agency is choosing not to enforce, and that the agency is not equipped to regulate gaming
A chart titled "Trading on Kalshi has surged since it began listing sports markets" showing total weekly trading volume on Polymarket and Kalshi. Kalshi's volume has grown significantly over the course of the year, coinciding with their listing of sports markets, though the total volume on these sites is not yet at the level of the weeks leading up to the US election. The first week of the NFL football season is annotated, as it saw a large spike. A chart titled "Trading on Kalshi has surged since it began listing sports markets" with the subtitle "Total volume by market category and date"

It shows the total daily trading volume on Kalshi by category of market. A large spike around the US presidential election shows politics/election markets surging to roughly $200mn in daily volume, while sports markets have surged to more than $150mn in total volume in September 2025, with politics/election markets now a small percentage of the total. All other markets make up a mostly negligible percentage of the volume

I keep giving LLMs a chance to impress me, whenever I encounter a boring task that they should be good at, and they keep shitting the bed. Not like 'this was too hard a problem for fancy autocomplete' shitting the bed, like 'randomly deleting swathes of code' shitting the bed
screenshot of a conversation with GPT-4.1 in which it randomly deletes a bunch of code then pats itself on the back

ICE plans to 6x its current budget for immigrant transportation and deportations. The money offers a potential windfall for a few contractors and charter airlines — some with close ties to the Trump campaign. Yet the system is already under strain, with significant concerns for detainees' safety: 🧵

is dunkin cereal milk gluten fr

Al Overview

+1
No, Dunkin' Cereal Milk is not gluten-free because it contains milk, which is a common allergen, and as a result, it is not suitable for those with celiac disease or gluten intolerance.
However, coffee drinks, dairy milk, and non-dairy milks like oat, almond, and coconut milk are naturally gluten-free at Dunkin'.

Hello. I wrote a nice long essay about AI and this very strange moment where we're constantly told we're living in the dawn of a strange new future but the only thing that's actually clear is that everyone feels pretty unmoored and uncertain. I hope you'll read it

New: The American guns turning Haiti’s gangs into an army.

Caches of weapons — including sniper and military-style rifles — are being smuggled from Florida, enabling Haitian militias to challenge the country’s fragile government. The UN says gangs now outgun the police.

these kinds of "skills"/tricks for interacting with an LLM are a bug, not a feature, based on unintended friction in the system. it's like having a Texting 101 class in 2006 that teaches you tricks for typing quickly on a T9 keypad
