"Congress must say enough is enough and immediately open an investigation into just how deep the rot at Burgum’s Interior goes," said one critic.
Bald Corruption of Top Trump Official Exposes Interior Department 'Rot'
Ethics experts this week raised red flags over a senior US Interior Department official's failure to disclose her family's financial interest in the nation's largest lithium mine, which opponents say was illegally approved by the Trump administration.

The US secretary of energy, Chris Wright, doesn’t know how climate change works. He doesn’t even know how energy works because he thinks fossil fuels are cheaper than solar and wind power. He might in fact know better but is too much of a coward to publicly say the truth. Fuck him and fuck RFK Jr.

The U.S. has surpassed 2000 documented measles cases this year, the highest in more than 30 years.

This is driven by rampant disinformation about vaccines from Robert F. Kennedy Jr., including in his capacity as a government official.

We will lose our elimination status shortly.

I wrote this piece after a 12-year-old was killed by a car in my city. I wanted to analyze urban planning in San Diego, but just in the few weeks it took to research and write it, another two more children were killed by car drivers.

We must de-center cars and reclaim safe urban space for youth!

This iconic Fabian Todorovic cartoon is still one of the best I’ve seen at illustrating the remarkable amount of space we surrender to cars, leaving little space left for everyone and everything else. The text added later makes the bonus point that many drivers still manage to complain about it.

"All is lost" narratives are popular because people generally do not want to take action. Taking action is tiring so if all is lost, you are off the hook. Nothing is more seductive than not having to do anything.

even “emissions” is obscure, pro-industry language to muddy the issue. I wonder if the average person even knows what it refers to: greenhouse gases and air pollution that cause climatic breakdown, biosphere collapse, and mass deaths

Leaders of Saudi Arabia and the European Commission were saying at COP and G20 that emissions—not fossil fuels—are the problem.

Less affluent countries need direct payments to fund climate change mitigation & adaptation — NOT loans that must be paid back with interest.

But the loan and debt trap is how COP and the international system works, basically siphoning wealth from the former colonies to the colonizers

We have to stop burning coal, petroleum, and gas. By “we” I mean everybody, every country, and every institution. It’s that fucking simple.

Future generations will study #Cop30 as a moment when the consensus to stop burning fossil fuels was more solidified than ever. The masses are revolting to protect nature—interrupting the halls of power in Belém. Yet extractive imperialism continues to oppress and marginalize the already vulnerable.

The only meaningful technological innovation of free market capitalism is in medical science. Maybe a handful of crops, trains, and telecommunication, but that’s it.

The rest is all junk making people stupid, lazy, and unhealthy.
