Thanks to where I live, I can proudly say that I got so distracted by my audiobook that I drove into a different state

Reminder that while climate change is a major contributor to water crises in the American West, it is far from the only factor

Also a reminder that distributing water rights by date of colonization is a Bad Idea

Happy Halloween! In case you need a ghost story for the occasion, I abridged The Legend of Sleepy Hollow to better suit reading aloud: samuelpchapman.wordpress.com/2018/11/01/t...

HP Lovecraft, a man twisted by a perverse cocktail of racism and seafood allergies, did irreparable damage to our perception of unknowable ancientness. Our model for Great Old Ones should be Tom Bombadil, not Cthulhu.

So many phrases sound like "a good band name" that it's harder to come up with a bad name for a band than a good one. Discuss.

Reminds me of a MBMBAM bit where they asked the very legitimate question of how Garfield keeps getting access to lasagna. Is Jon making it for him? But then why does Jon always get mad that the lasagna is gone?
What if a cat, but he's very fond of some unexpected food, like maybe rigatoni

Zeke is probably stealing something right now. Larisa doesn't need to, she just asks for it nicely.
has your MC ever stolen anything?

CitC: nope. Bennett is too scared and loyal
PrequelWIP: Flora has helped her best friend steal. Arlo has stolen an identity (and the heart of Flora)

When his dragon rescues him from the palace prisons, Lawcket convinces her to get him a mallet so he can break open the key box & take the keys to free all the prisoners.
So I guess that’s stealing 2 things at once,-

Never forget what these keyboard warriors have revealed about themselves.

The first priority of all reasonable people should be to minimize bloodshed. Prioritizing punishment over the safety of victims is a morally bankrupt perspective.
Republican members of Congress are now openly advocating the slaughter of Palestinian civilians in Gaza. "Level the place," says Lindsey Graham. "No rules of engagement" says Rep. Max Miller, a former Trump aide.

It's fair to blame climate change on the limitless growth demanded by capitalism, but that has nothing to do with birthrates and everything to do with unequal distribution
October 13, 2023 at 6:06 PM
OK, I officially lasted 6 posts before getting political, but I can't stand when people blame all environmental problems on overpopulation. Developing countries have higher birthrates and lower per capita emissions. It's willful ignorance.

Writers, one of my day jobs is hiring: app.workello.com/a/cloudwards...

It's not always the most exciting content, but it's steady remote work with fully flexible hours and a fantastic team. And you might have me as an editor! (I promise I'm cool)

OK, here I am on Bluesky! I'll start by boosting a story I just published, "The Light of Setting Suns" in @bcsmagazine.bsky.social. It's a retelling of the story of Icarus that asks (among other things) if an eight-year-old can really display hubris:
