Fascinated by what I can "squeeze" out of plant cells under microscopes spiced up with synthetic biology. 🔬 PhDone 🌱 at JIC (UK), now a postdoc at the MPIPZ (Cologne, Germany). Sometimes too sarcastic. 🇪🇺🏳️‍🌈 he/him https://linktr.ee/samwalds

The latest #AlphaFold DB update is out!

We synchronised with UniProt release 2025_03, predicted protein isoforms across all species, and provide MSAs used to generate each prediction.

Proud of the team at the PDBe for the hard work that went into this. Grateful to play my part in it!

We’re renewing our collaboration with Google DeepMind!

We'll keep developing the AlphaFold Database to support protein science worldwide 🎉

To mark the moment we’ve synchronised the database with UniProtKB release 2025_03.

What is really happening with Bluesky and its moderation? A thread.

First, let’s use the accurate word to describe what Jay Graber (the CEO) and others at Bluesky have been receiving: it’s not criticism, it’s *harassment*

I’ve seen some of them being harassed for months by deranged people

I have no answer for the second question.
Only a suspicion. 😅

But I do know of an R wizard (hint hint) who might be able to figure this out? 😉
I would be quite interested to see that data.

Huh, I hadn't really thought about Arts & Humanities folks. In my nativity, I had assumed that they also have specialised trustworthy preprint servers already, that I was just unaware of.
samwalds.bsky.social
I'm currently operating under the assumption that it is there to very purposefully funnel even more papers towards their own journals.
Which I am not a fan of.

Like if I preprint something, why would I do so on an MDPI server?
And not just on bioRxiv/arXiv?
I don't want to imply that this MDPI preprint platform is predatory, but it seems like it is designed to enable predatory behaviour. Which would be another big "NO!" in my books...
samwalds.bsky.social
Okay, so how are people feeling about MDPI having their own preprint server (www.preprints.org)?
I'm assuming they are doing it as a direct competition to bioRxiv/arXiv and to allow even more direct funnelling of preprints towards their paper publication pipelines? 🤔
