The Saddle-billed Stork, the tallest of all storks, is found in subsaharan regions, but that doesn’t mean it’s easily seen. While it’s rated a bird of Least Concern, population estimates range from as low as 1,000 up to 25,000. This is the only one I saw on my Kenyan sojourn. #birds_matter #birds

Stork Billed Kingfisher. This is a large tree kingfisher found in SE Asia. It has beautiful bright colours, including a vibrant red beak and a very loud squawk.

We were surprised to realize that there are 23 species of chipmunks in the west. Where I grew up, there's only the Eastern chipmunk, or as we called them, "chipmunks".

The Blue-winged Mountain-Tanager is a common, widespread tanager of lower Andean cloud forests. Large and brilliantly patterned in yellow, black, and blue, this species is conspicuous and unmistakable. 🪶
