The poet sat cross-legged on the motel carpet, bald head glowing like a soft moon. “Write, you must,” he told himself. The candle flickered agreement.

An advert for enlightenment peeled from the wall, whispering limited offer, no refunds. He proposed a toast to bad ideas, raised a cup of instant coffee, and tied his shoelace like it meant something.

The paper stared back, judgmental as a cat. “At the zenith of thought,” he muttered, “comes nothing but noise.” The candle hissed. Somewhere, a car alarm harmonized.

By dawn, he had one line worth keeping.
Enlightenment, slightly used.
