This week’s piece was a very personal one:

I wrote about why I left academia, why I left America, why I left Substack – and why I am asking for support as I am starting over as a full-time independent writer.

If you’ll indulge me:
Onward. Forward. Steady.
Things have really changed. Now I need your help.

As someone who’s been a Democrat for only six weeks, I think this is such an important point. We’re either a big tent, or we aren’t. And if we are a big tent, that means progressives unite around a moderate nominee, and moderates unite around a progressive nominee. Period.👇

Good morning! I'm in Uganda to visit family and friends.

But depending on your perspective, don't worry or I'm sorry: I'll be back by the end of the month.

See you soon, NYC.

Especially if you're on the fence about it, protest today. Fascism is isolating and lonely. Its very goal is to make you feel like you're the only person unwilling to accept a cult of personality. On days like today you fully realize there are more of us than there are them. You will feel better.

Padilla is a consummate politician who, like a lot of us, has been forced to only show intentional, calibrated emotion.

These are real tears that aren't about him, they're about communities, families, and people who are being destroyed.
Padilla: If this is how DHS responds to a senator with a question you can only imagine what they're doing to farm workers, to cooks, to day laborers out in the Los Angeles community and throughout California.

South Korea on Wednesday admitted for the first time that in its rush to send children to American and European homes decades ago, its adoption agencies falsified documents to make them more adoptable. Here’s what South Korea's Truth and Reconciliation Commission found. nyti.ms/3XYEsHJ
