This makes me so angry. These people view all life as training for lifelong servitude/work. There's no room for interest, enjoyment, and culture in their bleak vision of education. At least she'll never be in power to see it through. Though Reform are probably worse.
Badenoch: Curb students taking "rip-off" degrees such as English. The performing arts, sociology and anthropology are among the subjects the Conservatives would like to cut

Mourning those murdered by Hamas isn't incompatible with mourning those murdered by the Israeli state.

Demanding that the hostages return isn't incompatible with naming & demanding an end to genocide.

Naming the power imbalance & impact thereof doesn't desecrate those murdered two years ago today.

Ahhh thank you so much! It was very windy but they did so well - and the walk as a whole raised over £36k, which is amazing. (They’re pretty good kids, even if I do say so myself 🥰)

My lovely kiddos did a fundraising march for kids in Gaza at the weekend, raising over £900. And today my middle kiddo made a Palestinian flag at school - complete with a stick so it can be taken on a protest. Kids are the best.

Yet another poll finding the same thing polls have found for months: 66% of Israelis want to end the war, 69% think Netanyahu should resign either now or after the war. www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_ent...

I've just discovered that the @theguardian.com has now got a entire team to write NIMBY articles.

Explains a lot. I assume they'll be covering the wider effects of NIMBYism; climate catastrophe, housing crisis, collapsing infrastructure in the same way?

No, it never existed, and then the imaginary target was scrapped by the Conservatives years ago anyway.

The rise in numbers going to uni was entirely down to higher demand from students.
steamedhamms.bsky.social
did that 50% uni target thing actually still exist in any meaningful sense?

When I pick my nearly 2 year old up for a cuddle she pulls her knees into her chest and tucks her arms in across her knees. Basically, she has absolute trust that the world will hold her. What an abomination it is that children in Gaza have been robbed of this sense of safety. An abomination.

Some good news.

London is meeting legal limits for toxic NO2 pollution for the first time – almost 200 years earlier than predicted – following the Mayor’s "world leading air pollution policies," City Hall announces.

The Ultra Low Emissions Zone - and similar policies - really do work.

I’m delighted to share the termcards for two scholarly communities I convene at Swansea:
✨ GENCAS – interdisciplinary gender research centre
✨ Mid-Career Mentoring Network – an initiative I’ve founded to support mid-career colleagues.
I’d be very happy to share Zoom links if you’d like to join us!

I love a news cycle which is basically “member of a party disagrees with another party!”. Like, yes, that’s the point. That’s the system. I’d like Labour to disagree with Reform MORE.

Realising I have a deep association between Bristol and profound coolness in part because I watched Skins at a very impressionable age (it is also a cool city)

On my way to lovely Bristol to celebrate book publications with the wonderful Jenny Crane and Victoria Bates. And then I’m going to do a ritualistic book stress cleanse, recommendations welcome (douse it in gin?)

It isn’t.

It should be, but you’re working very hard to ensure it isn’t.
