When the PM says ‘we don’t owe them a living’, we should be clear that this is not a metaphor.

A living is life. And I want to live in a society in which it is clear that this is the least we owe each other, and are owed. 💞

I brought them back to the course material, as well as introducing them to theoretical tools to think on to use to gain perspective. One student decided to change the topic on her research essay as a result of the discussion.

But yeah, tonight was why I can really love teaching.

We had this massive discussion about how to bring along the general public in policy discussions, balancing technocracy with democracy, and controlling for the impact of monied power distortions.

It was so good I let the discussion just run way past the allocated hour as the students enjoyed it so

I had my weekly office hour with my online Public Policy masters students this evening … it’s a time for them that they know I’ll be around for them to ask questions of me about assignments, course content, etc.

And goodness, my students are just the absolute best, super intelligent & insightful.

Twitter post by Texas Governor Greg Abbott on October 5th. Original post included a retweet of a post by Illinois Governor JB Pritzker. Pritzker's post:

"This evening, President Trump is ordering 400 members of the Texas National Guard for deployments to Illinois, Oregon, and other locations within the United States. No officials from the federal government called me directly to discuss or coordinate."

Abbott's post:

"I fully authorized the President to call up 400 members of the Texas National Guard to ensure safety for federal officials.

You can either fully enforce protection for federal employees or get out of the way and let Texas Guard do it.

No Guard can match the training, skill, and expertise of the Texas National Guard.

Yeah, a lot of our conventional understandings of what different transport categories are start being dissolved when you introduce modern electric motors into the mix. Don't think our regulations have kept up.
