NYTimes has a long history of holding conservatives—including its paid columnists, like Stephens here—to absolutely no standards whatsoever, but still worth noting the complete lack of ethics required to not mention how 99.99% of Iran's uranium stockpile was due to Trump withdrawing from JCPOA.

A question every reporter should be asking Trump and Republicans:

If Trump doesn't trust his own Director of National Intelligence, and by extension, US intelligence, then which country's intelligence is he relying upon?

It’s fair to say that the events of the last week have proven that the Huntington bargain, the separation of military and civilian-political spheres, is essentially dead. The military is going to be involved in domestic politics, whether it can handle that, we’re going to find out soon. My latest⬇️

Mohsen Mahdawi of White River Junction, Vermont was illegally detained by ICE during what was supposed to be the final step in his citizenship process.

Mr. Mahdawi, a legal resident of the US, must be afforded due process under the law and immediately released from detention.

Just a straight-up, brazen, demonstrable lie from the Vice-President of the United States. They have no shame and they seem to be able to get away with it too.

Abrego Garcia is not a ‘convicted MS-13 gang member.’ This is flat false from Vance.

Unidentified men grabbing someone off the street and putting her in a car because she wrote an op-Ed. This as flatly authoritarian as anything we’ve seen in this country in a very long time.
Video of the international student at Tufts being arrested by "federal authorities" in Massachusetts has been released and it's terrifying.

They're not even uniformed officers. Just secret police thugs in hoodies and masks.

I know we can’t run around on fire every time Trump says something but he appears to have just announced the new US policy on Gaza which is to take ownership of it, ethnically cleanse it of the 1.8 million Palestinians there and maintain a long term ownership stake as it’s “developed.”

In the entire Trump crew, is there a more cynical, calculating liar than JD Vance? Utterly debased.
Threats aside, Vance is also just full of shit. The U.S. seized 19kg of fentanyl at the Canadian border last year, or 0.19 percent of the total fentanyl seized.

Meanwhile, in 2023, Canada seized 27,000 prohibited weapons at the border. The U.S. seized 459 weapons coming from Canada.
This is unbecoming of anyone serving in elected office. There’s also a logical conclusion to his “three ways of stopping this,” and it’s absolutely fucking insane.

My first and definitely last time working with the Los Angeles Times. Editing out the most urgent point of an OpEd in the minutes before sending to press while then also assigning a title and image that suggest an argument entirely opposite to the author’s clear intent is pretty shitty.

The assault on NIH is a test for how the national media covers the Trump admin: Trump is shutting down medical research!

That is easy to communicate. Will they treat it as a 5 alarm fire in a way that forces the government to respond, or will they downplay & caveat it?
