In 2026, we're launching an ambitious effort to track legacy news media's coverage of the trans community, with a focus on the words news outlets choose and how those are changing as right wing pressure threatens the independence of our press.

the 'chemical imbalance' theory is in brief:
- marketing
- not science

this has been widely known, for a long time. it's just outlets like the nyt that remain stubbornly self deluded ...

Dear @nytimespr.bsky.social. Your press release re comments I gave to @transnews.network includes many errors but one assertion is true: “TNN featured an interview with a former editor on the International desk at The Times who was not involved in these coverage decisions.”

That is the problem

Your press release @nytimespr.bsky.social exudes grievance … but who has suffered harm here? A powerful institution whose coverage has been questioned, or the vulnerable ppl who have suffered from it?

Who really has “endured” harm?

I invite your response @nytimespr.bsky.social

The nyt preyed on trans ppl, a vulnerable minority that poses no threat to anyone,

But its leaders also preyed on the general public’s lack of knowledge about us to foment disinformation, doubt and discrimination.

They turned their back on their professional duty to cover us fairly,

Some of your assertions ask ppl not to believe their own eyes. You did in fact publish an opinion piece “In Defense of JK Rowling” immediately after hundreds of your own contributors protested your growing bias. That is a fact.

This assertion is false: “No UK correspondent was assigned or drafted a story about the Cass report.”

I read the story as it was being written. It was placed on the budget and then pulled off. I know this bc it was my job to know what was being covered, how and by whom. Your publisher knows this.

Deeply disappointed to see TNN's journalism getting in the way of the real work of a newspaper; legitimizing the bugbears of rich people. Do better.
We have published the following update to our article following an email response from the New York Times.

Trans News Network has a policy against platforming bigotry. As such, we have declined to publish the Times' statement which included blatant transphobia.

This is why our legal system doesn't consider someone an adult until they are 42 and own a boat.
The fact this brave child-murderer is blocking everyone dunking on him (for the crime of racist mass murder and such) is funny. Courageous enough to go shoot unarmed civilians and children, but not enough to face some social media criticism!

Let’s actually talk about this, because it’s bullshit. In 1960, the MEDIAN income in the US was $5600/yr. That comes to ~$61,292.76 in 2025. While this is $20,000 less than the median income in 2025, that ignores inflationary pressures. Let’s look at housing prices: In 1960, the average price of a
Americans in their 20s and 30s may not feel that they’re richer than their equivalents 60 years ago, but they’re objectively wrong.

It’s fascinating how important it is to some people not to say “I’m struggling, it’s hard” or “I need help”—objectively true—but to instead insist they have it worse.

the article does absolutely nothing to back your argument up tho. its just “some unnamed economists say planes and smart phones exist, so stop whining” against statistics and statements from named economists completely at odds with that claim

Ungrateful peasants still can't appreciate the grandeur neoliberalism has brought into their lives. Don't you know that you have a better life than a 1700s European monarch who wanted for nothing and never experienced strife because you can finance the delivery of Funko Pops to your doorstep?

also, “politics is bottom/top not left/right” might work as a slogan but is shit as analysis. who is the bottom? who is the top? who constitutes an “elite” and who belongs to “the people?” these are important questions that have to be answered.

(OOC) The "moderates" are the traitors, every time. They're always the weak link. Even if you're a cynical party institutionalist it should be obvious that the moderates are dragging the party to hell.

Misgendering every trans student is targeted. Each time a student misgenders a classmate, it is targeted at that classmate. I'm not a lawyer, but if your brief doesn't explain where the difference is, maybe you shouldn't be either.

The nyt editors already have a biased angle in mind. They’re not seeking facts, they’re looking for quotes to fill in a predetermined narrative of bigotry.

Every nyt story about us is intended to spread disinformation and foment discrimination. The leadership’s anti-trans animosity is deeply held
heads up to anyone who holds trans kids near: amy harmon from the nyt is searching for and having a hard time finding people to interview to find out exactly what trans kids are doing when their care is limited or cut off, and for purposes of community safety, please shut the fuck up around her.
