Let’s be clear, self-care is self-preservation (especially now). Let’s ditch the guilty pleasures, the shame you associate with your desires or feeling like you have to earn pleasure. What if you stop treating self-care as a luxury or pleasure as a “nice to have”? What shifts in your day-to-day?
Collectivism, eroticism, unions, deepening your relationships (especially with yourself), shadow work, defiant art, the personal is political - Venus Retrograde is here! 💫

If we could all muster the belief that our actions could change the future, they don’t stand a chance.
I can’t remember where I read this, but it’s important:

Why is it that when people think about traveling to the past, they worry about doing something small that will drastically change the present, but no one in the present thinks that doing something small today can drastically change the future?

We are capable of as much passion as we are of despair, as much grit as doubt, as much pleasure as anxiety, as much compassion as cruelty. Indifference, resignation and sorrow are not our only choices.

Fire followers are native plants that thrive post fires and bloom brighter and bigger. A beautiful reminder that recovery is possible.
Fire recovery in LA's communities and wildlands will be a long road. But it's comforting to remember the resiliency of our native plants, which have evolved incredible adaptations for dealing with fire. In fact, some grow even better after the ashes settle.

I refuse to let the next 4 years ruin the time I have here.
I will have joy.
I will laugh.
I will rest.
I will dance.
I will sing.
I will spend time with folks I love.
I will find ways I can help my community.
I will find the beauty.
I will hold on to peace.
I will live.
I will have joy.

Good and loving and smart and honest people exist. There are a lot of them. More than the bad and cruel and dumb and mendacious.

They're not perfect, they just care for others, even strangers. Not always actively, but as a default.

Find them, celebrate them, commune with them. You are not alone

Proud LA schools responding to ICE presence on campuses by teaching kids about their constitutional rights. Also heavy that our kids are processing the grief of the fires, the confusion of executive orders that are defunding school programming & lunches & looming deportations all in the same WEEK.

we will keep track of all the changes, fight in every way we can, and deepen into our visions. but find your grief practice. so many people are going to suffer and die in so many unnecessary ways in the short term because of the decisions and moves being made. learn to feel your grief as we go.

Yes to this! Simple pleasures and shared joy will help us have the stamina to face the horrors and recharge when we need to.
I have a little plea and it's this: please keep posting about things that aren't The Horrors. I am not saying to not look at or be informed about The Horrors. What I am saying—what I am genuinely kind of begging you to do—is keep posting about books and movies and sunsets and pets and joy. Please.
