Our timeline: Trump posted an AI video of himself promising every American will have access to a miraculous cure (that figures in a conspiracy theory) called a "medbed," while in reality Trump and his people are shutting down the government rather than enable access to real healthcare for Americans.

📣 OK, with ~3 hours to go before the midnight government shutdown, I'm going to go through ALL 50 STATES +DC ONE BY ONE to remind everyone of how many Americans healthcare Democrats are fighting to save (and this is just #ACA exchange enrollees; don't forget about Medicaid).

Please bear with me.

Yes. And I think about the better world we could be focused on building if we weren’t always reacting to the latest crisis and trying to salvage what we can.

When people start rationing their healthcare bad things happen. Ask anyone who has to pay for insulin. Hell, people already literally die in this country because asthma inhalers still cost $50 with insurance because of corporate price manipulation.

Millions more who aren't facing QUITE as insane rate hikes will instead have to downgrade to a worse plan (from Gold to Silver, from Silver to Bronze, from PPO to HMO, etc) in order to escape some/most of the hikes.

That means higher deductibles/co-pays & more paperwork/hoops to jump through.

Vinay Prasad, a former adult oncologist, has moved to disrupt the childhood vaccine schedule by asserting - against all evidence - that administering multiple vaccines at the same time “could blunt their efficacy.” The added burden/delay of separating shots would sharply reduce US vaccination rates.
FDA quietly positions itself to disrupt childhood vaccine schedule
While CDC turmoil grabbed the media spotlight, a quieter but potentially more consequential drama unfolded last week at FDA. The agency has positioned itse...

Under Dr. Oz, Medicare is launching a pilot program that will use AI to determine whether patients would be covered for certain procedures.

Companies running the program will be paid a share of the savings from rejecting claims.

Who in their right mind voted for this? No one.

The referenced headline is:
Pediatric Brain Cancer Group to Lose Funding.

This is one of the primary groups studying childhood brain cancers- among the hardest to treat; they need more, not less.

Says a lot about this administration’s priorities

Meanwhile, we just spent $280 million on Alligator Alcatraz, which is already being closed down because it violates the law, and we're sending $350 billion in tax breaks over the next 10 years to foreign investors.

This is a truly evil and immoral agenda.

That’s who Donald Trump and RFK Jr. are screwing over by cutting health care.

When a top CDC scientist resigns citing eugenicist rhetoric from federal health agencies, everyone should absolutely be paying attention.
Eugenics plays prominently in the rhetoric being generated and is derivative of a legacy that good medicine and science should continue to shun. The recent shooting at CDC is not why I am resigning. My grandfather, who I am named after, stood up to fascist forces in Greece and lost his life doing so. I am resigning to make him and his legacy proud. I am resigning because of the cowardice of a leader that cannot admit that HIS and his minions' words over decades
created an environment where violence like this can occur. I reject his and his colleagues

Dr. William Foege, 89, who helped end smallpox in the 1970s, recently wrote: RFK Jr.’s “words can be as lethal as the smallpox virus.” And his actions are more lethal still. He’s waging war on America. That’s an impeachable offense. He must be removed from office.

#NIH is hanging by a thread. The #CDC has been decimated. #RFK Jr. and Russell #Vought are psychopaths--I don't say this frivolously--they are cold, calculating, inflicting violence on millions through public policy. It is where we are right now. These men are not normal. 1/

Arabic Studies, Holocaust Studies, Russian, Eastern European & Eurasian Studies, Religion, & more—decimating the humanities destroys our ability to understand the world, act in it, and envision a future. Blue states are complicit in this destruction of scholarship and teaching

"I've now been allowed and asked to share more details about what's going down at the University of Oregon, which involves imminent announcement of firings, among others, of tenure-track and tenured faculty. Given the units impacted (see below), please share this with your professional networks in related disciplines and start getting ready to put pressure (or begin putting pressure already) on the University of Oregon upper admin to abandon this alleged plan before they finalize it.

It appears that, with no prior consultations, the departments of Religion and Classics (two separate units), and the programs in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies, German & Scandinavian, Judaic Studies, Arabic Studies, and Holocaust Studies (the latter five all parts of a previously- consolidated mega unit called the Schnitzer School of Global Studies and Languages) are facing imminent announcement of elimination (expected the week of Sept 7), with layoffs of pre-tenure, tenured, and career faculty in these units. The reason given is "financial exigency" -- upper administrations of several universities across the country (and in blue states like Oregon also) appear to be giddy to use the context of Trump attacks on higher ed to dismantle the humanities.

Faculty at OU won a faculty union not long ago; this may be, in part, a retaliation for that, l've been told. The union is working with AAUP, etc.; my understanding is that the maximum spotlight is needed at this point."
