An election that results in a 49.8% (77.3mil) vs 48.3% (75mil) win for a candidate where 36% of people didn't vote isn't a landslide or a collective decision or even a decisive win. It's a barely squeaked out victory that isn't a mandate for anything.

In the height of pandemic twitter derangement I absolved to not feel political anger alone—it must be in the irl company of another and it changed the way I engage online. If something pisses me off, moving on. Experiencing anger with others in real life is somehow more transformative. Worked for me

On the contrary, legal institutions have rarely treated death by law enforcement as a disaster in the United States. There are still few incidents of accountability (importantly: indictment isn’t accountability). There is a homology between domestic law enforcement and international in this way

Importantly, it’s substantive AND sappy, rather than just sappy. Harris running on “joy” and dismissal when everyone is indebted and nervous is vacuously sappy. I love that he recognizes everyone’s struggles while retaining the love and aspiration for a sensuous, fulfilled life. good, hearty, sap.
