There are only so many science jobs abroad to absorb U.S. scientists. What’s coming is more than a brain drain — it’s a brain drought, as new talent stops entering US science altogether.

As happened in Germany in the 1930s, we will see an exodus of America’s greatest minds to other countries as scientists flee attacks by this administration on research. This is “Trump’s gift” to the world. And it is a catastrophe for the United States. bigthink.com/starts-with-...
American science to soon face its largest brain drain in history
Over the first half of 2025, the USA has cut science as never before. This disaster for American science is a gift to the rest of the world.

From July 4, 2015 to July 4 now. "Once democratic expectations are lowered, rebuilding them becomes exponentially harder. The best remedy is dishabituation – to see things in light of our best historical practices, our largest ideals, and our highest aspirations". www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
Will we habituate to the decline of democracy?
The recent attack on science in the US is not only undermining knowledge; it is also undermining democracy. In a healthy democracy, public policy is guided by evidence, and truth is the shared foundat...

"I invite any Trump administration official who thinks our academic standards have declined to sit for an exam in my class. If you can explain the quantum principles underlying the structure of the Periodic Table (like my 18-year-old freshmen can), then you can lecture me on academic standards".

“Three things made the US a rich and powerful nation: the rule of law, its science & innovation system, and openness to foreign talent. Remarkable how Trump has taken a sledgehammer to all three. No enemy of this country could do more.”
A Permanent Stain on Our History
The Trump administration’s embrace of nativism is as shameful as it is self-destructive.

Trump’s Fool’s Gold Science EO is a dangerous sham.
It gives his appointees the power to dismiss entire bodies of research and punish researchers who fail to fall in line with his agenda.

My ongoing request:

If your NSF or NIH grant was terminated--whether at Harvard or elsewhere--please report it here.

Our trackers are actively used in lawsuits and are often the only record that terminations ever occurred.

NSF appears to be terminating hundreds of its grants to Harvard, per internal sources at NSF and at Harvard. At least one division has had all its grants cut.

Taste, pain, or response to stress — nearly all essential functions in the human body are regulated by so-called G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). Researchers @biozentrum.unibas.ch have uncovered the fundamental mechanism how such a GPCR works, using a method similar to the earth satellite GPS.
