Hi friends old & new, here's a quick intro!—

I like to write rhymes & read the internet & also books

I live in Brooklyn & parenting a 1 yr old is my latest adventure

I love cities, websites, libraries, learning, lists & constraints

I'm working on making documents fun at @leaflet.pub

Great! Reach out if you have any q's. Sorry it's totally confusion on our end & will soon clarify / better merge the different parts of the product :)

See my reply here, no need to add manually, just need to make a publication & add posts there instead. Sorry for the confusion!

Hi Aaron, cool to see! I'm one of the @leaflet.pub creators — FYI the one-off docs (like this) are separate from our 'publications' (& not yet on atproto); you prob want the latter for a blog!

(high priority for us to fix so you can publish single docs to a publication or as one-offs to atproto)

Separate issue (see my other reply) but agree with this too! We're doing some new things with /discover & reader view, will try to incorporate author info along with that.
schlage.town
Yes, we do have this for blogs (posts have date, author w/ link to their bsky, and link to blog homepage) but this one's a standalone doc - I pinged Aaron to see if he can do as a publication instead (unfortunate confusing thing on our end we need to solve soon!)

hmmm! sounds like maybe you will though 🤔😂

looks extra broken rn but in my experience it's been partially broken (i.e. returning some results but randomly missing things that match a query) for a long time
schlage.town
For now: you can make a new publication, copy this in as a new post there, and hit publish

From the publication you can add drafts for further posts (drafts are also not public on atproto til published). Lmk any questions!

People not platforms, praxis over posting

Thanks! Will keep in mind, got some other stuff to get squared away first but hope to explore more soon :)

Yep feed for Leaflet's blog at lab.leaflet.pub
schlage.town
Oh cool, nice to include the markdown directly. We have RSS support now, see here (and someone recently added /atom and /json as well) but I'm sure we can improve, open to suggestions or further PRs here!

should we add a lexicon for externally published posts to leaflet. basically an atproto based rss alternative, but will make it so your posts on a blog published anyhow can be subscribed to, and will turn up in our upcoming reader view.

Good thread from Dave in the replies here! Cool possibilities to explore around longform publishing + the open social web.

Lots for Leaflet to play with here! From personalized feeds based around your interests & social graph, to ways of interoperating with other tools & platforms…

How about a timeline of leaflet documents?

Based on Bluesky identity, follows.

Show us what a fat social network looks like.

Thanks Dave, appreciate the context. Excited by the potential for longform publishing social network on atproto.

Agree re: Markdown as good common denominator; we're now figuring out Markdown interop for Leaflet.

Things like timeline & discovery too, both w/ Bluesky + ultimately building our own.

btw, when I hit the docs site I feel like I want "get started" to be like a high level overview / FAQ before the actual *start streaming*

e.g. there's not like a recorded video library yet right? but I guess I could just record locally + add to youtube…useful to have that spelled out though!
schlage.town
Ooh awesome may have to try similar…or a reading session w/ multiple participants could be fun. Or maybe do like Leaflet office hours or something! Will think more about possible experiments :)
schlage.town
problem: too much scrolling / reading bullshit-of-the-hour & not enough real nourishing conversational posting

solution: make me post something thoughtful & original before I'm allowed to read — then show me high signal new posts to reply to — and only then, allow me to scroll my feeds lol

Amazing! I don't know how we'll play with @leaflet.pub x @stream.place collab *yet*…but I'm sure we'll think of something! Hmm maybe like live readings of published posts haha :)

I saw a blog post recently say like "atproto's cool in theory but there aren't even any other apps that aren't just bsky forks…"

…meanwhile like a dozen are blogging on @leaflet.pub alone :P

tbf many are just starting to see traction in recent months, but kinda the point: we're *very* early here!
schlage.town
Yeah a world of difference between like relevant replies with collaborative potential (we obv love to see things like other apps doing cool stuff w/ leaflet!) and…what you described haha

Spent some time recently catching up on the archives for the @blackskyweb.xyz blog, The Algo Rhythm (great name btw!)

May come as no surprise but it's *really* good & has some great lore on early Bluesky + the origins of Blacksky, glad to have this documented, thx for writing @rude1.blacksky.team!

Yep! In a sense more a social dependency than a technical one; rn almost all ppl with atproto accounts are primarily Bluesky users & it's the best place for global discovery & conversation

But we definitely plan to do these kinds of things (reader view / feeds / tags etc) directly in Leaflet!
schlage.town
Yeah I think part of it is they were really strongly anchored on the bluesky / twitter-like social media experience, and partly it can be hard to find all the other cool atproto apps that exist! (But also in this case a bit more research would've been good)
schlage.town
We hear ya, on our list soon to make it easier to publish markdown to Leaflet! I think we actually support just about all core markdown (need to add ordered lists) & should mostly work to paste in now, but we also want to add an endpoint or something :)
