The Monster Hunter series has some of this. I wouldn’t say that the combo inputs are as complex as fighting games, but they include multiple inputs and have directional input elements. Each weapon type has different combos and inputs which has a bit of that variation in fighters/styles too.

I apologize if you said this in a post. I missed it. Welles public reception is as much a product of a vacuum of artistic urgency as it is any meaning he may be creating. He’s being promoted into a space that is otherwise absent political conviction. So, the aesthetics carry the emptiness.

Nothing is better when a caster lays out potential lines, the player goes with a different play, and then the caster gets to do the, “Oh my goodness! That opens up/achieves X!” moment. Sutcliffe and Cheon are especially adept at this.

Hungry on Plane produced a lot of great Pro Tour coverage and retrospective documentaries that are helping to keep the broader legacy of MtG alive. The game is changing, and that’s fine. Stories like these need to be preserved though. youtu.be/VU4i-9UAolg?...

I’m going to give a medley of videos, because I think this specific kind of documentary should be done more and receive more resources to be done. I’ve loved the high touch Pro Tour documentaries this year. This one from @jimdavismtg.bsky.social was excellent. youtu.be/3crdirj9quM?...

Bring back the WPA. Build a bunch of shit we need and at the same time document all of it for posterity while promoting it to the whole world.

It was akin to an awesome Rocky Horror showing. Everyone cheered in unison. During the lightsaber duel between Obi Wan and Vader their respective cosplayers went to the front of the theater and acted out the duel. It was before online discourse and expectations. Everyone loved it.

Star Wars was obviously sold out. There wasn’t the decades of fraught reaction to modern Star Wars, and it was a hopeful celebration. Before the movie started there was a parade of cosplayers. Imperial cosplayers came out to the Imperial march. Alliance cosplayers came out to the theme.

There are the big sequences in the car chase sequence and the climactic tracking shot, and the final shot of the boat in the harbor, but I also think of some of the smaller shots. The first time Theo sees Kee. The crowd forming around Kee as she caries the baby out of the building.
