I'm pretty sure there was already MAGA censoring of the space kaiju episode of SNW last season. Ten minutes shorter than the other episodes and really seemed to just be missing crucial scenes. Seemed like it was supposed to be a Palestine or Ukraine allegory.

It was bad in the 1920s and 1930s in general wasn't it? Hence the whole car industry jaywalking campaign to convince pedestrians it was their fault for getting run over to head off the then-real possibility of cities just outright banning cars in backlash.

I've seen compelling arguments that the prevalence of worrying about stranger danger is basically a function of car (and especially pickup/SUV) bloat.

LA Metro is also in the freeway building business, so even at the staff level the agency can have a lot of American DOT-style carbrain rot. One example below for those unfamiliar.

When Fox started it was "smart Republicans" pulling the strings of the rube voters, but it's been an inmates running the asylum situation for at least 15 years now. Those rubes grew up thoroughly basted in Fox and are true believers who got elected themselves.

Is the sidewalk plow a new thing for Toronto? One of the things I saw was from Canadian reddit from three years ago with someone who moved from Toronto to Montreal saying Toronto is an adjacent property owner must shovel city and that Montreal was a big upgrade in sidewalk snow removal.
The sidewalk plow is a menace, and we can do better

sometimes it's literally like an island patch of grass with a strip of sidewalk on one end (first is from an NYT map of DC with federal land colored in beige)

DC has the adjacent property owner thing for snow too, and even if they actually enforced the fines & made them high enough to get compliance out of people they'd have to contend with the city being littered with tons of little pockets of federal land and the feds simply do not clear their sidewalks
