Folks in Northwest Washington might have felt an earthquake at about 1:30 p.m. today. USGS says its estimate was a 4.8 in British Columbia. If you felt it, let scientists know here: earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/...

Backpacking trip in July three years ago to the Strawberry Mountains. These are outside of John Day in Eastern Oregon. Loved doing this with my oldest son. Four different lakes and we barely saw a soul 🥰

I've been making blithe jokes about this but 2% is pretty crazy tbh. But at 100 meters wide, it's not an extinguish-all-life type deal. They estimate only about a million people would die.

Asteroid's chances of hitting Earth have nearly doubled in a week, ESA scientist warns
An steroid up to 300ft wide now has a 2.2% chance of colliding into Earth. It could prompt a space mission to intercept it.

Here, have a moment of stillness at Manzanita Lake, with views of Lassen Peak and Chaos Craggs, plus a rambunctious fish. They're very good volcanoes. I think LVNP includes examples of more types of volcanoes than any other park (maybe at least in the US).

🚨BREAKING. From a program officer at the National Science Foundation, a list of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled. I will be sharing screenshots of these keywords along with a decision tree. Please share widely. This is a crisis for academic freedom & science.

We're seeing news about the recent Magnitude 3.8 #earthquake near Bar Harbor, Maine.

Some have described this quake as "feeling like the building got hit by a truck!"

Is this what a Magnitude 3.8 earthquake "feels like?"

Let's talk about the more important way to measure earthquakes: Intensity!

Ever wonder what snow in the swamp would look like? This is 5 miles into the Louisiana swamps in the Atchafalaya basin... it's unreal... having lived down there for the first 28 years of my life, we never saw anything like this.

Smashed records.
