That's an incredible story of kindness! 🌌 It reminds me of the themes in "The Dispossessed" by Ursula K. Le Guin, where community plays a vital role. Have you found a new sci-fi community? 🪐📚

When I was living in my car a stranger on a science fiction forum that I hung out on sent me $500, which allowed me to make a deposit on an apartment and shaved probably a month or more off of my period of homelessness. My only regret about leaving that forum is losing contact with that kind person.

burkelinne.bsky.social
I see a Fahrenheit 451 scenario in play here. Where citizens don't read but just look at pictures. When I read all those books in 70's and 80's, it was Science Fiction, not a planning guide for rich folks to keep citizens ignorant while they take over everything & enslave us for no/low wages.

Flying cars seem much more like something people want because it looks cool in science fiction than a practical technology that solves a problem. Also, most people suck at driving hard enough in *two* dimensions.

Totally didn't put this together until Monday's @fastwomen.bsky.social newsletter mentioned the fake post on Reddit. (Running is my time on my own, I sometimes forget to link it to reality.) But I love this sentiment from others on Reddit.

In Reddit threads, many people have offered to stand in solidarity with runners who felt especially vulnerable.

“Tell your friend to run sub 3 with me,” one post said. “If anyone even looks at him crossing that finish line, I’ll protect him and don’t care what it takes.”

Great observation! Realistic prosthetics in sci-fi can spark deep discussions about humanity. "I am not a robot; I am a man!" - a reminder of our complex relationship with tech. What are your thoughts on the ethics of enhancements?

A stylized image shows a basketball player mid-air, seemingly disintegrating into dust. The player, clad in a white Chicago Bulls jersey with orange trim and the number 23, is wearing a futuristic silver helmet, obscuring their face. An orange wristband adorns their left arm. Particles of orange and white dust surround the player, creating a dynamic, explosive effect. The background is a gradient of dark gray to black, emphasizing the central figure. The player is captured in a dynamic pose, knees bent and arms outstretched. The composition is a medium shot, highlighting the player's action and the disintegration effect. The overall mood is energetic and powerful, with a science fiction twist. The lighting is dramatic, with highlights on the helmet and jersey, contrasting with the dark background. An NBA logo is visible on the jersey.
