I want to applaud the patient and donor representatives on the board. As someone who has recently been there, I know this was not a decision come to lightly. Your bravery is truly inspiring!

Pertussis - better known as “whooping cough” or “100 day cough” - is no joke. It can be terrifyingly fatal for small children (they just stop breathing without warning). When it’s not fatal, it can mean 100 days of coughing fits so severe that rib fractures are common.

It is vaccine preventable.

CDC data shows large increase in pertussis - more than 5 times the same time last year.
"The CDC's data shows Pennsylvania has reported about 10% (2,462) of all pertussis cases this year." www.precisionvaccinations.com/pennsylvania...

Friendly reminder that if you are new to Bluesky, you should go into your settings and turn off the setting that hides replies with fewer than 2-3 likes. The site is still small enough that keeping that setting on means you will miss a LOT of content you likely wanted to see.

I have been noticing that the first post of a thread will get decent engagement while the rest will often get zero and I'm wondering if people still have that "see only replies with (X) likes" setting turned on

How are we generally doing threads on here? Actual threads, or self-RTing with the follow on? Don't want my three followers to miss out on the good stuff simply because I'm not posting in a manner that they can see due to their timeline settings

When Elon Musk bought Twitter a year ago, he said that it “obviously cannot become a free-for-all hellscape.” A year later, according to study after study, the platform now rebranded as X has become exactly that.
The Consequences of Elon Musk’s Ownership of X
Dozens of studies of posts on X from multiple organizations have shown a similar trend: an increase in harmful content during Mr. Musk’s tenure.

the irony of this "i was just an ignorant dupe" defense of course is that the hallmark of trumpism is the sneering dismissal of expertise and actual accomplishment such as "having experience" and "being competent at your job" and relying instead on loyalty pledges and nepotism...jared

Great how one eleventh of House Republicans won't actively support giving a powerful US govt position to a man who supports overthrowing US Constitutional democracy.

Sure, their actions show they still think nothing could be worse than working with Democrats to help America. But it could be worse.

The idea that someone as ridiculous as Jim Jordan could be in contention to lead the House should make every American pause and wonder how the United States has come to such a moment.
