This cannot be solved by theory alone. We need to account for the practical relations between media infrastructures and publics in a given constellation. These shift and change, while institutional mediation and technical standards attempt to stabilize production, distribution, and reception.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Eryk. I have always had a strange feeling about Bratton, and "The Stack" in particular. Comparing resistance to nuclear power and AI is not what I would call good theorizing either. Should we get him a free copy of Karen Hao's "Empire of AI"?

I really wish that our style of technological critique would make it into governance discourse! Bratton's piece seems like a weird posting after a public debate that was not in his favor. In German, we call this "Nachtreten". Literally, a foul after the foul.

Digitale Zentralbankwährungen werden in der allgemeinen Öffentlichkeit und in der Wissenschaft kontrovers diskutiert — dies gilt auch für die mögliche Einführung eines digitalen Euro. Obgleich die potenzielle Einführung eines digitalen funktionalen Äquivalents zum Bargeld weitreichende gesellschaftliche Konsequenzen hat, dominieren in der aktuellen Debatte technologische und im engeren Sinne ökonomische Aspekte. Die Konferenz will hierzu ein Gegengewicht setzen und rückt Fragen nach dem Zugang zu finanziellen Infrastrukturen, zur Souveränität über personenbezogene Daten sowie zur monetären Souveranität von Währungsräumen ins Zentrum. Sie bildet den Abschluss der Arbeit der Zevedi-Projektgruppe ,Die normativen Grundlagen des digitalen Euro (DINO) und bringt Forschende aus den Disziplinen Ökonomie, Rechtswissenschaften, Soziologie und Wirtschaftsinformatik zusammen. Die Keynotes der Konferenz werden Prof. Dr. Peter Bofinger (Würzburg) sowie Carola Westermeier (MPI fur Gesellschaftsforschung, Koln) halten.
Dabei ist die Konferenz nicht rein akademisch ausgerichtet. Praktiker:innen, politische Entscheidungsträger:innen sowie Vertreterinnen der Zivilgesellschaft werden auf ihr ebenfalls vertreten sein.
