This Sephardi prayer book for Rosh HaShana and Yom Kippur was published in London in 1740. It's notable that even several generations out of the Iberian Peninsula, Sephardi writers still used Spanish.

It's part of the Weisz Western Sephardi Collection: blogs.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/mullerlibrar...

When it was discovered in a box of archive material at @boardofdeputies.bsky.social in 2021, it looked like it could've been written during the time when Jews had been expelled from Britain. Is it a genuine letter from the 16th century? A forgery? Or a simple typo?

This letter, dated 25 September 1546, is proof that sometimes you need to take a second look.

In the hand, the sail and flag,
Loaded full with blessings
The New Year is arriving now!

Lovely to see my article on Anglo-Jewry in the Age of King John published! It includes one of my favourite ever starts to an article, as well as one of my favourite lists (and I love a list!). Hopefully I manage to say something useful and, if not, there's a charming E 401/1564 graph on p. 76!

From 1907, when Percy Galkoff opened the business, through to 1979, the family served the city's Jewish community.

With its green tiles and gold writing, it's a great example of the Art Deco style that was popular in 1933 when Galkoff had it installed.
