Hello all, my story "Enselfening" is now live in the new issue of The Dark!
I am finding it impossible to come up with a pithy sales pitch for it, apart from saying it's quite weird and I'm proud of it and hope you'll read it 🙏🙏🙏

I read this book last year and it became an instant favourite. If you're looking for non-fiction that feels grubby, liminal and haunted, then this is the book for you. In the first Backlisted ep Rachel Cooke describes Seabrook as someone you feel both afraid of and for. That's really stuck with me.

I'd def recommend picking it up, it's incredibly sinister.

Been thinking about Jeannette Ng's Under the Pendulum Sun and how it's one of the few books that makes the fae as sinister and horrifying as they deserve to be. An under-read dark fantasy gothic masterpiece.
Cover of Under the Pendulum Sun by Jeannette Ng, showing a fae queen looming over gothic spires.

I don't understand how Joe does it, but his work is routinely bewildering in how multiple realities exist at once in a story. Wtf is going on

I’m very behind on submissions reading at the mo, so if you’re writer who’s sent something in and it’s been over 30 days I haven’t forgot about you, I’m just drowning in reading and will get back to you as soon as I can. Sorry for the wait.

Yes, Sebald and latex. @rlsummerling.bsky.social knew how to get to the good stuff.

I really enjoyed these super kind, super thoughtful questions.

Long live Seize the Press.

This story filled me with such a deep sense of inescapable dread, I can’t wait for you all to read it and it ruin your day. A fitting and wonderful tribute to the king.

this is, arguably, the sweetest story i've ever written. i've also never had a story called "disgusting" as many times as this one has been. which is, y'know, probably due to the whole "35 million ticks" and "nipple piercing body horror" stuff, but hey!

"She doesn’t realize that she’s made of ticks until she gets her nipples pierced." That's the opening line of @spicycloaca.bsky.social's "Pearlescent Tickwad", originally published in Strange Horizons and soon-to-be-published again in GORE POETICS, out in 2026: strangehorizons.com/wordpress/fi...

Today on the Patreon we've got Z.D. Dochterman talking about Spencer Nitkey's story "In the Dream, He Is Skinless and Beautiful" from Weird Horror #10.

Also with nods to fan favourites Avra Margariti, Samir Sirk Morató, and Thomas Ha cos there's just too much good shit out there to limit yourself.
