Some Democrats want to bar ICE agents from wearing masks and carrying out law enforcement efforts without uniforms that identify their agency. “We feel that this is a practice that not only is troubling, but that it will also contribute to a growing distrust between law enforcement in general and at our population,” Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-N.Y.), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, said at a news conference Friday. But Espaillat also said problems with ICE run far deeper. “I was of the belief that perhaps we could reform ICE. Now I am of the belief that it has to be dismantled as an entity,” he said. “This unaccounted for violence is part of its culture. And so we must dismantle it and build it from the ground up again.”
