EXCLUSIVE — DHS Acting General Counsel sent out a memo Wednesday to all Federal Protective Service staff (the sub-agency that guards federal buildings) letting officers know they could take any action necessary "in the vicinity" federal property to protect themselves.

The Handbasket reports:
DHS top lawyer says 'no legal barrier' to actions officers can take to defend federal property
In a memo obtained exclusively by The Handbasket, Federal Protective Service (FPS) officers were given free rein.

Air raid sirens howling in a completely dark city is some kind of cinematic horror. It’s mornings like this when it’s remarkably hard to believe in any possible better future, I just feel like we’re alone and this is it

100%. And that nationalism was actually exacerbated greatly by the coalition war with Iraq in 1991. Russian politicians travelled to Iraq in like 1992 and came back fired up and madder at Yeltsin than before.

The ensuing international response, led by the US, not only tied directly to the 2003 invasion of Iraq, but to the attacks on 9/11 as well. And the 2003 invasion of Iraq is what told Vladimir Putin that the rule of law was out the door as far as international relations went.

To distract his army, and to stabilize his financial situation with some new territorial holdings (which would come with great amounts of buried energy wealth), Saddam Hussein invaded neighboring Kuwait.
aramshabanian.bsky.social
But when his now-massive army grew restless, and there was no longer an external foe to distract them, they began agitating against the economic poverty their leader had left them saddled with.

Even though that dictator, Saddam Hussein, ended his war with nothing more than the restoration of the pre-war border, he still spun it as a victory to his people.

Putin's army is larger than it was prewar. History provides a recent example of another strongman who, over a years-long struggle against a neighboring state, built one of the world's largest armies and provided it with plentiful combat experience.

If you genuinely think that a ceasefire in Ukraine that comes before a full territorial restoration of Kyiv's lands and the collapse of the Russian military and government of Vladimir Putin will bring lasting peace, you're sorely mistaken.

Sounds like DHS is staging some flights out of Hillsboro Airport rather than PDX

They literally harassed my mother until she wanted to die because of the burden she felt she was placing on the family by needing a dialysis machine when we travelled, and I still hate the rest of DHS more.

It's profoundly funny to me that in 2025 the least evil part of DHS is the Transportation Security Administration.

Sorta weird that the PBS @frontlinepbs.bsky.social episode "Revolution in Cairo" from 2011 has been removed from every PBS affiliate website. It's still indexed, but the video is gone.
