After years of Republican legislators and talk radio personalities denigrating the teaching profession here in Wisconsin, nearly every school district is struggling to attract and retain experienced educators.

It may be below freezing outside, but it's a green Monday nonetheless.

Today, I was proud to join my Democratic colleagues, led by Senator LaTonya Johnson and Representative Darrin Madison, in putting forward a comprehensive marijuana legalization bill for Wisconsin.

I'm in Minnesota today for a national day of solidarity regarding the recent federal occupation of Minneapolis.
Over 560 state legislators from dozens of state

Our last listening session of the season is happening Tuesday, February 3rd at UWM. I hope you can join us!

We'll discuss the latest on cannabis legislation, preparing for potential ICE mobilization in MKE, and whatever else you want to talk about. @ryanclancywi.bsky.social will be on hand as well.

I was proud to stand I solidarity with colleagues at the federal, state, and local level in West Allis yesterday as dozens of neighbors gathered to protest ICE’s targeting of peaceful protestors, including the horrific murders of 2 people in Minneapolis.

All workers deserve the right to collectively bargain over wages, benefits, and working conditions. Today, I was proud to stand with my Democratic colleagues in support of legislation that would allow nurses at UW Health do do exactly that.

We must take care of the people who take care of us.

Being an ICE or Border Patrol agent is not a particularly dangerous job, and 2025 was the 2nd safest yr on record. The chance of being killed on duty for these agents is 5.5 times lower than for the general public.

Less than 10% of the few on-duty deaths that have occurred since 2003 were murders.

2025's Top Story: Fascism comes to America

“When and if fascism comes to America it will not be labeled ‘made in Germany’; it will not be marked with a swastika; it will not even be called fascism; it will be called, of course, ‘Americanism.’" - Prof. Halford Luccock, 1938

The 10 stories that defined 2025, Day 8: The affordability crisis

Anyone who buys groceries could tell you that things are too expensive, but 2 decisions by Trump and Republicans in Congress have had an outsized impact on consumer costs - tariffs and the refusal to renew ACA insurance subsidies.

The 10 stories that defined 2025, Day 6: DOGE & Breaking Government on Purpose

Initially created as a vehicle for Elon Musk to supposedly save $2 trillion in government waste and fraud, the reality of what the so-called Department of Gov’t Efficiency (DOGE) actually accomplished is dubious at best.

The 10 stories that defined 2025, Day 4: AI Data Centers

Do you like paying higher energy bills to support big tech companies and huge corporations as they do everything they can to replace your job with computers? If so, then AI data centers are for you.

The 10 stories that defined 2025, Day 3: WE Energies, the PSC, and fossil fuel addiction

It's no secret that federal Republicans have been keeping fossil fuels alive by any means necessary, despite green energy being cheaper, and climate change nearing its catastrophic tipping point.

The 10 stories that defined 2025, Day 2: Starving Public Schools

Nothing is more important than our kids’ education. Someone should tell that to the legislators who voted for the state budget this July.

The 10 stories that defined 2025, Day 1: The 1,000-year flood.

Early in the AM on Aug 10, hundreds of homes, roads, parks, etc were flooded by torrential rain. The storm, considered a 1,000-yr event for its extremely low probability, dumped 14+ inches of water in some places in just a few hours.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Politicians from both parties have been propping up a broken healthcare system for far too long. The fact is that a single-payer “Medicare for All” type system is extremely popular. Even about half of self-identified Republicans would support it.

What are we waiting for?

The WI Legislature continues to starve local gov'ts of the resources needed to maintain critical public services, while repeatedly making our state tax code more regressive and more reliant on property taxes. Enough!

Meet Jaciel Cirrus Rojas. A 24 year old father with no criminal record was swept up as “collateral damage” during an immigration raid in Racine. Despite a court order to release him since he poses no safety or flight risk, a Trump-appointed judge continues to deny his release from Dodge County Jail.

Today I was proud to join State Representative Robyn Vining and other colleagues in putting forward legislation that meets the needs of public schools across our state, ensuring a better future for our kids and fewer referendums going forward.

With today’s tree lighting ceremony, it’s officially the holiday season at the State Capitol.

If you’re in the area, it’s well worth the trip inside to check out the beautiful decorations - many of which were created by Wisconsin schoolchildren.

Imagine going to the airport to fly home from college to surprise your family on Thanksgiving. Then, after making it through security you are detained by immigration officials and deported to a country you haven’t visited since you were 7 years old.

That’s what happened to Any Lucia Lopez Belloza.

I was proud to join with my Democratic colleagues this morning to introduce the Clean Water for Wisconsin legislative package.

Whether it’s PFAS, lead, or any other contaminant - we need to make sure every Wisconsinite has access to clean, safe drinking water.

Today I was proud to join with colleagues, including Representative Darrin Madison and Representative Ryan Clancy, in introducing the Conditions of Confinement Legislative Package.

Armed thugs terrorizing families is cruel and un-American. I might also remind the President that some of the judges ruling against him were people he himself appointed.

It's not about party, it's about right and wrong.
