A journalist asked me yesterday how we worked out where all the Spicomellus armour went & truth is it was a challenge & what we present is a hypothesis. We had fun laying out all the armour & trying to figure out what the hell was going on! Fortunately @tweetisaurus.bsky.social is a talented artist.

Just learned the absolutely insane news that a cub of what is likely a Homotherium latidens was found and just described. Couldnt help but make a quick study of it. Too busy to take it any further now but i’m sure i’ll return to it as soon as I’m able

What an amazing little kitty!
A palaeontological dream come true - a three-week old sabertooth kitten was preserved in the Siberian permafrost. Surprisingly, even bleached by millenia in the soil, the fur is still a pretty dark brown. In life, it might have been nearly black.

There was a mummified Homotherium cub discovered recently, if you didn't hear the awesome news already!
I needed to sketch the poor little kitty that got frozen in permafrost for over 30.000 years, even though I have poor knowledge of post-dinosaur era exctinct fauna but I tried.
