Am I just mistaking them for looking similar to another character that is in "Mugen Souls"?
Around 2012, that's about the time of "Disgaea 4" and "D2" for Harada.
I just don't know anymore.

I mean, that does fall in line with how early Nanameda Kei's work got mistaken for Harada's. Something I've mentioned a couple times before.

Looking at release dates, the PC version of "Eiyuu Senki" released in March 30th, 2012.
"Mugen Souls", their earliest known work, released in March 22nd, 2012, about a week earlier.
That means both were from around the same time, and it matches.

As far as I was aware, despite playing many of the games they were involved with, this was something that I never saw mentioned anywhere.

Shimada Fumikane:
"World Witches" series, "Alice Gear Aegis" etc.
Kuroboshi Kouhaku:
"Summon Night", etc.
Akio Watanabe:
"Monogatari", "Grisaia", etc.
Yaegashi Nan (literally just Asuka with Homura's swords):
"Senran Kagura", etc.

So, uh, there's this game series called "Eiyuu Senki". Let's just say...it's an interesting series. While it's all originally on PC (-cough-), I played the English PS3 version of the first entry.

That being of course, "Etrange Overlord" which is one of Sohei Niikawa's big projects after leaving NIS. That was a real funny surprise for me when it was first revealed.

Like, pretty recently, "Mado Monogatari: Fia and the Wondrous Academy". There are two characters that inexplicably looked quite different from every other character in the game.
And looking it up on the main JP website...yup.

"Smile of the Arsnotoria" which was a multi-media project. I actually watched the prequel anime as it aired. Kinda failed apparently.
Then there was "Houkago Girls Tribe" which, uh, also bombed.
Then there was the whole “Curry Meshi Koitsura Girls” Ad Campaign.
Weird random stuff.

Makes sense, that was a series that ended up getting pretty darn popular.

I wouldn't say I'm the most familiar with their stuff. Barely a decade ago, all I knew them for was for the artwork in the "Conception" games. And not even by name.

This was an interesting experience. Had some rough spots but the setting is quite unique and the story surprisingly heartfelt. I quite liked it.
That said, there's a reason it comes with multiple photosensitivity warnings. This was not exactly easy on the eyes.

This was rough.
It had some fun ideas but execution was just a little too janky. Much less the mission structure which was repetitive in a not good way.
And the story, while straightforward, couldn't resist the last minute plot twist and cliffhanger combo.

So here's me being a bit spicy I guess. Definitely some unusual placements compared to most of the community apparently.

Even going through the old concept art for the first game, measurements show that Flonne is apparently 30cm, a solid foot, taller than Laharl.
The difference of being...200 years older I guess.

So seeing them lined up side-by-side that that feels really weird.

Was Flonne always that much taller compared to everyone else? Was Laharl always that short?

...unlike poor Xenolith. Despite being Etna's brother and introduced in the same game, he got left behind entirely. Not everyone can be so lucky I guess.

And since then, Sicily has remained a frequently reoccurring face in the series, almost always accompanying the original trio wherever they go.

But this time, while her design saw significant changes, she's the real deal.

Unfortunately, uh, spoilers I guess. It was all a trick by a demon and she promptly is never seen again after being dealt with.
But it was such a wild idea that it stuck in the mind for some fans...me included.

In ep7, a character confronts the main trio and claims to be Laharl's little sister.
Meet Maharl.
