At this point, I feel like I'm the one that's mistaken and am going crazy. I swear that's Nanameda Kei.

Am I just mistaking them for looking similar to another character that is in "Mugen Souls"?

Around 2012, that's about the time of "Disgaea 4" and "D2" for Harada.

I just don't know anymore.

Out of curiosity just now, I went and looked up staff credits and that character in question is being credited to Takehito Harada, which shouldn't be correct.

I mean, that does fall in line with how early Nanameda Kei's work got mistaken for Harada's. Something I've mentioned a couple times before.

That's an early Nanameda Kei design, right?

Looking at release dates, the PC version of "Eiyuu Senki" released in March 30th, 2012.

"Mugen Souls", their earliest known work, released in March 22nd, 2012, about a week earlier.

That means both were from around the same time, and it matches.

As I was playing, I eventually unlocked a character that had me do a double take and thinking, "Is that by Nanameda Kei"?

As far as I was aware, despite playing many of the games they were involved with, this was something that I never saw mentioned anywhere.

As per the topic, it had guest designers for some characters.

Shimada Fumikane:
"World Witches" series, "Alice Gear Aegis" etc.

Kuroboshi Kouhaku:
"Summon Night", etc.

Akio Watanabe:
"Monogatari", "Grisaia", etc.

Yaegashi Nan (literally just Asuka with Homura's swords):
"Senran Kagura", etc.

While on the topic of surprise guest designers, I had a case of that a bit ago I feel like mentioning.

So, uh, there's this game series called "Eiyuu Senki". Let's just say...it's an interesting series. While it's all originally on PC (-cough-), I played the English PS3 version of the first entry.

Currently, the main reason why I was thinking about this, they are working on an upcoming release I've been keeping my eye on.

That being of course, "Etrange Overlord" which is one of Sohei Niikawa's big projects after leaving NIS. That was a real funny surprise for me when it was first revealed.

Though even past that, they just kinda show up where I least expect it.

Like, pretty recently, "Mado Monogatari: Fia and the Wondrous Academy". There are two characters that inexplicably looked quite different from every other character in the game.

And looking it up on the main JP website...yup.

I'm recalling:

"Smile of the Arsnotoria" which was a multi-media project. I actually watched the prequel anime as it aired. Kinda failed apparently.

Then there was "Houkago Girls Tribe" which, uh, also bombed.

Then there was the whole “Curry Meshi Koitsura Girls” Ad Campaign.

Weird random stuff.

Ever since, I want to say, specifically the animated adaption of "Re:Zero", it feels like they must have really blew up in notability. I've been noticing more and more stuff with their art and designs.

Makes sense, that was a series that ended up getting pretty darn popular.
November 30, 2025 at 3:52 AM
While keeping up with recent game news, I had a random thought. Shinichiro Otsuka is kinda popping up everywhere now, aren't they?

I wouldn't say I'm the most familiar with their stuff. Barely a decade ago, all I knew them for was for the artwork in the "Conception" games. And not even by name.

"Narita Boy" (PS4)

This was an interesting experience. Had some rough spots but the setting is quite unique and the story surprisingly heartfelt. I quite liked it.

That said, there's a reason it comes with multiple photosensitivity warnings. This was not exactly easy on the eyes.

"Earth's Dawn" (PS4)

This was rough.

It had some fun ideas but execution was just a little too janky. Much less the mission structure which was repetitive in a not good way.

And the story, while straightforward, couldn't resist the last minute plot twist and cliffhanger combo.

I talk a lot about the series but I don't think I ever really bring up which entries I actually liked or disliked.

So here's me being a bit spicy I guess. Definitely some unusual placements compared to most of the community apparently.

Love seeing this kind of crossover artwork.

I thought maybe it was just that cover art that was off but no.

Even going through the old concept art for the first game, measurements show that Flonne is apparently 30cm, a solid foot, taller than Laharl.

The difference of being...200 years older I guess.
November 24, 2025 at 3:12 AM
Because of the stylized proportions and perspectives, they've always seemed closer in height to me. Clearly still a notable difference but not by that much.

So seeing them lined up side-by-side that that feels really weird.
November 24, 2025 at 3:12 AM
While searching up images for that thread earlier, I came across the cover art for the "D2" guidebook and it caused my brain to short circuit for a moment.

Was Flonne always that much taller compared to everyone else? Was Laharl always that short?
November 24, 2025 at 3:10 AM
She went from an unused, almost forgotten concept to a character fully adopted into the cast and beloved by the fanbase...

...unlike poor Xenolith. Despite being Etna's brother and introduced in the same game, he got left behind entirely. Not everyone can be so lucky I guess.

At first, the common sentiment was that she was a reference to Maharl (possibly even being another fake) but, of course, we now know it goes further back.

And since then, Sicily has remained a frequently reoccurring face in the series, almost always accompanying the original trio wherever they go.
November 23, 2025 at 7:34 PM
So you can bet that, around a full decade after the original game, here is yet another character that suddenly shows up and claims to be Laharl's sister in "Disgaea Dimension 2".

But this time, while her design saw significant changes, she's the real deal.
November 23, 2025 at 7:33 PM
While not exact, she looks very close to the old concept art.

Unfortunately, uh, spoilers I guess. It was all a trick by a demon and she promptly is never seen again after being dealt with.

But it was such a wild idea that it stuck in the mind for some fans...me included.
November 23, 2025 at 7:32 PM
Interestingly, Sicily wasn't the first attempt to bring the concept of Laharl having a sister back. The first was actually in the anime adaption of the 1st game.

In ep7, a character confronts the main trio and claims to be Laharl's little sister.

Meet Maharl.
November 23, 2025 at 7:28 PM
I don't know how common knowledge this is but Sicily was actually conceptualized all the way back in the original "Disgaea".

But she just never ended up coming to be.
