I'm sure this is heavily coloured by my life experience, but I'm still kinda gobsmacked when I realize my kids know people in 3 of the 4 corners of the USA, plus a handful of European countries, all of whom they chat with on the regular.

absolutely, and you can already see examples of it happening at the local level. clean energy projects in remote communities usually replace diesel generators, and on many grids, any uptick in wind or solar generation directly displaces natural gas 🎉
