Merry Christmas. A lot of elves are about to die.

It seems like Bluesky can't cope with me trying to share a photo of my setup for a first attempt at playing Speakeasy and honestly, that might be fair.

Exciting life. Just scared myself by stepping on bubble wrap.

Need to get up-to-speed on the current status of UFOlogy to keep having conversations with my dad. He's been very YouTube-algorithmed. At least it's not QAnon or something, nothing to get too mad about.

My YouTube feed is pretty bad in its own way so I probably can't talk.

Work has planned its Christmas party at a rooftop venue tomorrow so that's not great. Really didn't feel well the last time that happened, beyond the expected too much food and drink.

Printers and printer software continue to be some of the most user-friendly tech around.

I haven't said anything about it but if you want to vote for maddisonstoff.neocities.org/roko whenever you see a short fiction prize come up this year, I'd really appreciate it. It's still the best (and most trans, which is also important,) takedown of the tech bro's whole entire ideology...

I had a pretty pointless appointment today. But at least we've ruled out a bunch of rare blood issues, I guess.

Love to see the Sedgwick County Zoo putting out a good explainer on why GenAI slop videos of animals are a problem & how to identify them! It’s succinct, easy to read, and doesn’t shame people for not knowing better. A+ useful link to share with family and friends.

The Reality of AI Animal Content – Sedgwick County Zoo
If you spend any time on social media, you’ve probably seen them – bears bouncing on trampolines, apes caught on doorbell cameras, or “rescued” wild animals acting in ways that seem too good to be…

There are a lot of weirdnesses and annoyances with the new BOM website, but this is breaking my brain. Surely it didn't always switch between % chance of rain and % chance of no rain in the same place?

T2 advent calendar starting simply yesterday with some Melbourne Breakfast and suggested to sip mindfully and light a peaceful candle. As opposed to all those bloodthirsty candles, I guess. I don't think I have any evil candles handy right now, probably safe.

rich dudes got freakier after butlers fell out of fashion, like say what you will about having domestic servants but clearly it was some sort of moderating force on old rich dudes having a fancy man follow you around saying shit like "oh dear sir, that wouldn't be very becoming"

Introduce yourself with 5 animals you've seen in the wild:
Yellow-footed antechinus
Lesser Long-eared Bat
Eastern brown snake
Pobblebonk

All depends what you count as the wild. I'm counting bats that moved into nesting boxes. Considered including reintroduced bandicoots.

Caught up on Foundation and I'm still not over there being an actually good Foundation TV show, when it should be a nightmare to adapt. One of my favourite sci-fi book series, with the caveat that I haven't revisited it since I was a teenager. And 100% fine/good that the show is quite different.

Lots of folks captioning aurora photos like "for a few minutes we didn't think about politics"

guess I'm built different, every time I'm out trying to see night sky stuff I frequently think about how much light pollution is entirely preventable with just a tiny bit of regulation

I've hit the stage of thinking about turning my game collection into little campaigns. A simple example would be playing rounds of The Last Lighthouse until you lose, and then it triggers a game of Arkham Horror. Or chaining survival and crisis management games together into ultimate survival.
