Had a craving for fall flavor snacks, so I drove over to Modesto for a Trader Joe’s trip. I haven’t been there in quite a while and I really wanted to buy just about everything.

Started working one day out of the week up in Elk Grove, to help ameliorate my weekly commute. It was nice to be home before 7:30.

Today is our four year house-iversay, here at Munk’s Hollow. The front yard has grown wildly, this year and is overdue for some serious pruning, once fall temperatures set in.

I talk to my father a lot, still, even though he’s been gone since December of 2019. I have plenty of time on my lengthy commute, and sometimes it’s as if he’s sitting in the passenger seat. Today was his birthday. I didn’t recall it until I returned home. Funny, he didn’t even bring it up.

Mid summer can be a challenging time for the backyard, out here at Munk’s Hollow. We lost a plant to the punishing sun, but we have been rewarded by volunteer watermelon in one of our raised beds, which complements the flourishing corn stalks. The wisteria is beginning to spread out, as well.

As prices rise, it seems the only responsible thing to do is to stop buying non-essential items. It’s going to be a rotten year ahead, for sure, but I’d rather make do with the stuff I have than give companies the idea that I’m willing to pay for their tariff expenses.

I don’t spend much time on FB. I check in primarily to wish friends a happy birthday. So, when I learned that a friend passed back in April, I felt guilty. But it turned out that the post his sister made on his timeline didn’t make its way into so many others’ feeds, either. Algorithms suck.

Three and three quarter hours commute. I should still be grateful. I suspect some people had a far worse evening than I did. Oh, and I saw three separate fire engines, sirens and lights ablaze, in various parts of my rerouting, all seemingly unrelated.

Enjoying a particularly moderate temperature summer Sunday, here at Munk’s Hollow. It gets very hot here, but sun shade sails, frequent breezes, a patio ceiling fan, and lots of plants make a big difference. Official temp is 89° F, but it’s holding at 74° F, in the shade.
